Not much given away, but the atmosphere of the film looks pretty solid

They dont.
Totally new story line, which effectively rules out all other alien movies. BAH!

yeah... heard about this film and it sounds dodge.
what about the alien 5 movie with Weaver? isn't that in production too? no doubt she'll give birth to more rediculous messy shite again. she fucking interfered waaay too much.
I'd like to see some sort of crazy future mockumentry with the Steve Irwin of intergalactic nasties getting all in yer face about his beloved xenomorphs

There are no firm plans for Alien 5 at this time.

not completely.. one of the characters (the one played by Lance Henriksen.. oh dear..) is called Weyland - the corporation that sent out the Nostromo was called Weyland-Yutani.
this, however, will suck all air out of the Earth's atmosphere.

you sound like you're going to cry..
oh this film will undoubtedly end with Weyland knowing the coordinates of LV-426 and thinking about sending a ship there, if ever technically possible.. something like that.
I didn't say it was going to be good, you know. I'm just saying they will make it fit in with FORCE GODDAMMIT!!

My personal view is they need to do an equivalent of Aliens, but on a far larger scale. Maybe 200 years down the line they've encountered more and more aliens in space and decide to go to the aliens home planet to destroy them. Huge battles between thousands of marines versus thousands of aliens on a completely alien planet. Sort of Lord of the Rings meets Starship Troopers. Of course, Ripley really, really should not be in it!
Danbrusca is right re: Aliens 5. I think the general feeling was Predator and Aliens franchises have both weakened, combining them was the only way of getting a guaranteed return on the cash to make it. Personally, I feel a well done return to form with Cameron/Scott at the helm would of been better long term for the franchise.
Talking of AvP, anyone remember the Streets of Rage style arcade game in the early 90s? Choice of four characters: two colonial marines and two predators.
qrter: Is LV-426 the colony planet? I thought that was pretty much taken care of at the end of Aliens (although of course it would still be good to check it thouroughly).

yes, LV-426 is the colonist's planet. I believe it's also referred to as Acheron, not sure. (fffFANBOY!!!)
the idea is that AvP takes place long before even "Alien" takes place - so they could easily reference to it.
