I just bought "Patton" on DVD, the movie about WWII General
Patton from 1970 starring Ceorge C. Scott. It was rewarded 8
Oscars! I haven't seen this one yet but I loved George C.
Scott as General Buck Turgidson in Dr. Strangelove. Anyone
seen Patton? What do you think of it? It looks like a great
warmovie...

it was one of the worst jokes I've ever coughed up, which
would explain the absence of laughter.

WOW! What a movie!

I highly recommend this to anyone that can dig Apocalypse
Now. George C. Scott does a most remarkable job as General
Patton and his efforts earned him an Oscar in 1970. However,
Scott refused to take the price and stayed home watching a
hockey game instead!

General Patton, eccentric and cynical and as passionate
about the war as he is makes for a very entertaining movie
character. He believed in reincarnation and saw himself as
having been reborn time and time again as a great warrior
throughout history.

There is this one scene for instance where he's talking
about how he wants to meet Rommel man to man in a tank
battle and let that one battle settle the outcome of the
war. Disappointed with the fact that this kind of warfare is
out of fashion, Patton remarks: "I hate the 20th century!".

There are lots of good quotes in this movie and the one that
maybe amuse me the most is when Patton is asked what he
thinks of Marocco and he answers that he likes it because
it's like a combination of the Bible and Hollywood..

If there is anything negative to say about this movie it
must be the silly, one-dimensional, stereotypical way the
brits are portrayed in it. It's sheer parody, Black Adder
style! I can imagine the brits being very offended by that.
But don't let that stop you from seeing this great movie...

Enjoy!
