yep, no zeros and ones involved there.

purely a physical medium! and rich in warm tonal values.

And in most cases, it sounds better than CDs.

Pay truckloads of money to get a pressing plant cut your
music into laquar or a DMM. Then get them to press it onto
vinyl many many times.

ah poop.

clichéd gibberish.

in many, many ways the cd is a huge improvement over vinyl.

One of these lovely devices. It's annoying no record stores I know of
have got one, they could charge you £15/20 to cut one
record from CD and make a reasonable profit on it.

Portability, ease of access to CD players (eg CD drives on
PCs etc.) conveniance for skipping tracks/ease of multiple
CDs in a changer, cheaper/easier to press up.

On the other hand: Worse sound quality (on high end hi-fis),
Worse for DJing (especially scratching), Smaller space for
cover art, "incurable" scratches are a lot more common (a
record has to be really scratched to skip with a good
cartridge/high tone arm weight).

I think it's pretty normal that you do see these things in
"record stores". The thing cost 10.000$! :-)

Yep! I just thought some of the larger record stores,
especially those that deal online, could get one and offer
the service. At £20 a go, the device would pay for itself
after 1000 pressings (the blank records/staff time/shop
space etc. would be about £10). Actually, I'll mail HTFR
about this later today :)

the worse sound-quality weighs up for the size and all
that.

quality over quantity, baby!

Yes, that's my view too. Still, CDs have their place- ease
of piracy, ease of conversion to MP3, playing in the car/on
a discman. Taking to parties where there's just a cd player,
etc.

hmm..

I HATE parties that only has a CD-player and a guitar hidden
somewhere. You just KNOW that halfway through, the music
will stop, and as you look towards the cd-player, you will
see a really drunk guy holding the guitar saying "yeyeee!
let's play!"

he then starts playing some song which is actually
completely unknown to everyone in the room, and yet, they
sing along.

as no-one knows the lyrics, the most drunk, and loudest
person will be the one controlling the lyrics. as he is piss
fucking drunk, he will sing something like "..and I touched
her pussy, and licked her hair, she said c'mon, dear!"

parties with vinyl-player have class.. and their guitars are
either well-hidden or non-existing.

Yes, and the really good guitarists you have to nag to get
them to play anything. It's only the crappy ones that want
to show off, "Look I know two whole chords and have no sense
of rhythm :D"

Last party I played vinyl at, there was a guitar in the main
room, but no sucker touched it. When there's a big
soundsystem, decks two mixer, fx and a drum machine, people
know drunken guitar medleys will not go down well.

I've NEVER attempted playing guitar while drunk.
