after recently (6 months ago almost to date) permanently quiting smoking i've noticed more and more that a LOT of people smoke
my question is for those on the other side of the pond - do you really think that europeans smoke more than americans?
over here it's popular, but from my trips germans seemed to enjoy a good smoke, and the uk-ers seemed the fags quite a bit as well....
it's not healthy (but i'm not here to preach)
and it seems that money could be spent more wisely, like on, say, 12 inches
what you think?

It is a big problem all over the world, I have only been to Africa and Europe before and it seemed as popular there as it does in the UK. It doesn't bother me when people smoke, it is their choice and they can do what they like with their money.
Saying that money could be spent on better things is an odd comment, better for who and better in what way, if you spend money on something you enjoy then I see no problem with this. In your case you would like a penis enlargement, but ask yourself 'Will it make me happy? .'

I love to smoke and I don't think I'll ever give it up... Well if I get seriously Ill I guess I'll consider it. I think the dangers of smoking are exaggerated and that the medical industry are involved in a conspiracy to get more people to buy their products in order to quit smoking. I also think that the anti smoking drugs are just as unhealthy and addictive as nicotine.
Enjoy a good smoke but eat healthy and don't rot in front of the telly all the time.
Why do you think all the oldest people in the world were all smokers?

No seriously! I think it is exaggerated. I am not saying it's healthy, but I think it is exaggerated. Some of the antismoking campains we have had in Norway lately is pure propaganda!

yeah but you immediately became biased by starting to say you love to smoke - then denouncing the dangers of smoking, for which there is a LOT of evidence, kind of sounds like trying to pull the wool over your own eyes.

- yeah i hear ya - makes sense - that idea of buying 12"s instead is what helped me quit - well that and the cough / lack of air intake i was dealing with
- i cant comment on other countries anti-smoking campaigns cause i dont see me - i dont really care about the ones here cause they didnt effect me - i quit cause i wanted to
- my main issue with smokers is how rude they are - when i was a smoker i didnt huddle near a door subjecting any passer by to an assault of cig. smoke - i instead tried to be polite and only have myself inhale the smoke - but apparently others do not feel they should be reasonible
- i was just asking if you think that smoking is more an aspect of culture, i guess, then anything else - i think in america, because we're all taught to fear everything (from cancer, to the french), that smoking isn't really - and from my travels it seems that europe had the more "who gives a shit do what you want" atmosphere (my kinda place)
was just curious

In the UK there is much debate about outlawing smoking in public places (bars, restaurants etc). So attitudes are changing over here too. I seriously doubt it will happen though. Tobacco adverstising has already been outlawed and if a public ban takes place, the tobacco companies will lobby the government to fuck. Just like how the tobacco firms in the USA lobbied the US Government to take matches and lighters off the ban list for flights, so that passengers would smoke more before and after their flight.

Eh...I became biased?!? I'm honest enough to say that I love smoking and that I think the dangers are exaggerated. I know that it's not healty but the antismoking propaganda these days are very much along the lines of "if you try cannabis you will end up a heroine addict and die of an overdose". It's stupid and simply not right! The antismoking movement is so pestered with fanatism...

i personally LOVE the smoking ban in public places
maine has had that in place in public buildings (minus bars until the 1st of this year) - and it's great
when i go to NYC i dont have to hose myself off or burn my clothes after a night out
it's NICE...
however i do think smokers have rights, as do non-smokers, and they should be allowed to smoke - it's always a sticky situation

haha - im not coming down on either side of the fence here..
i used to smoke. i quit, for my own reasons.. because i wanted to. and i dont make a point of preaching to anyone. i still have a lot of friends who do.
but can i just say this : if you wait until youre "seriously ill" to quit, it'll be too late.. :)

yeah co-existence has a point - however you can't deny the fact that your lungs are less healthy - unless of course your one of those out of 1,000 who smoke
smoking fucks everything up from my experience, health insurance is more expensive, your doctors take you less seriously, and the ladies hate it (unless they smoke)
i think everyone should switch to weed, esp. in this country where they're already high-strung enough

Check out this brilliant book:
Cigarettes are sublime by richard Klein
It has lots of interesting facts and thoughts about why we smoke, the anti smoking movement and the history of smoking in general. It's a darned entertaining read as well. The author quit smoking after writing this book and writing it was a part of that process

used to smoke all the time in my 14-16 year range with my best friend/ thought i'd never quit., like i'd die without it. 2 years later and i don't need a cigarette at all. they're really worthless....unless you're pretty good stoned, then maybe one or two here and there is a good buzz, but that's about it/.

the problem with marjiana propaganda (on both sides of the arguement) is that its always pretty factless.
the anti-weed campaigners arguments are based largely on hypothesis.
and the pro-weed people are generally non-scientist weed-smokers who've never had any problems with it themselves.
both sides do themselves a big disservice. ive smoked weed to varying degrees for years. when i smoked a LOT (all day every day), i found i got pretty lethargic about everything (which was ok at the time as it was a uni summer holiday and i had nothing to do)..
right now its been quite a while. ive never personally had a problem. but i have two friends who've induced paranoid schizophrenia through their drug-use. now, i know it doesnt happen to everyone (its never happened to me).. some people are just born with a propensity for mental illness. but you dont find out until its too late.
the problem is, there arent any solid facts about these cases around + how much of a propblem it actually is/isn't - because no one's prepared to any proper research.
theyd rather just rumour-monger + mislead people.

Ten year, man and boy! I keep stopping and starting over the last few months and hacking crap out of my chest every morning kinda tips the scales towards the unhealthy suggestion. I think it's good that we have big daft warnings on cigarette packets now in the UK. Whilst I find these funny, they do yank a little chain in my head, telling me to try and quit. My money would certainly be better spent on something else.

The only time I really do enjoy a cigg is when I'm high. And I think thats what wrong with cigg smoking, people depend on it to make them feel better, calmer or even in the crowd.
