Hey guys, We want to set up a cult film society at our University where we'll screen our DVDs in a uni room to around 20-30 people. The stick-up-his-arse student club representative says there may be legal issues with this, is he right and if so what are they? It would all be free etc and a DVD not pure film so surely it'd be just like showing it to your mates right? |

hmmm, screw you guys!!!! The guy in charge is such a fucking prick though I need to know what to say to him, the only film society we have now shows god awful foreign films about the inner turmoil of a landscape gardener and that kind of shit... |

im fairly sure you arent allowed actually, i believe the text that we always dance our salsa to gives as an example showings in schools etc. so you should pay if you want to do it legal maybe you can get funding from the university for it. |

If you show the dvd to more than a certain number of people I think its 20ish then its classed as a public performance which you have no right to do (clause in the copyright stuff you see at the start of the film or in the small print) you need to seek permission might even need a prs licence or something film like similar... |

i think it's the setting you all have to be friends, and not a club, and you'll have to do it at home but im no lawyer so ill stick to funny remarks from now on |
