i think that article is pretty surreal. i would like to see some kind of supportive evidence and a step-by-step progression to any of the points listed. on a geologic scale 15-20 years is so small that i can't imagine those kinds of changes happening in that period of time.

i'm sorry, i don't understand what you mean. it not "news" in the sense that i've never heard about this before, but i haven't seen anyone mentioning it on local or nation wide news reports. i'm not sure what anti darwinism has to do with anything.

well, that article did intrigue me. and startle me.
i do care about global warming actually - i don't do anything to stop it, but i don't drive, don't use aerosol products, it's a funny coincidence but i care. I do smoke outside all the time though, but i doubt you can blame global warming on me.
But seriously I did not see a single solid source (i.e. name of a scientist, environmental expert, researcher) within that report. Like as has been said already, the report is a speculation, therefore not fact. Weathermen are wrong about the weather, Y2K did not end the universe, Nostradamus' third antichrist is not here yet, so what you makes you think the Pentagon can predict Armageddon?
Yet I will say I read the entire article. And it's propaganda. That is my opinion, and I mean not to impose upon anyone else's opinion as long as they respect mine at least.
Some people act like we live in a dictatorship or something - well we don't. For funding against global warming, you need support, and for support, you need politicians. And for that, you need people to pay the taxes of such bills. Which means you need the news to let them know. Hence the cycle of democracy.

IT'S ALREADY HAPPENING! THE THREAT OF GLOBAL WARMING HAS TURNED THIS THREAD INTO TOTAL ANARCHY!
anyway, i'm skeptical. all this allusion to a pentagon "secret report" but no links to it.
i believe it's probably more along the lines of what Dan Brusca was saying. The pentagon makes up contingincy plans for any plausible threat to our security. it's part of why our country is such a threat to the rest of the world. Since global warming is a possibility in our future, it makes sense for the pentagon to have a plan for it.
Obviously, it is impossible for an organization like Greenpeace to be impartial on an issue like this, so i'll take that article with a grain of salt.
i've always thought however, that it would be amazing to witness the end of human existance, but i doubt it will happen in my lifetime.

it is interesting that the US government is showing/feigning concern regarding this issue. as they are reponsible for being the largest pollutant in the world.
they usually tend to try + draw people's fear/attention away to other - less threatening - distractions so they can get on with fucking up the environment in peace..
i am intrigued.
zeus : try + take the aggro like water off a duck's back. people's reactions have got more than a little out of hand out of hand. if i were you id do my bst not to rise to it. you didnt start this thread as a personal thing in the first place. dont turn it into one by retaliating.

you know, I just saw a greenpeace commercial and thought of this thread... the commercial was talking about how wind power could power the world 2 times over... now, I personally think that is bullshit... either they're not giving all the facts and leaving it vague, or they're just way off... I've watched programs about building wind farms, and it is a good source of power, but it's not going to be the main source ever... it's a great thing to look into now, but it just takes up too much space for relatively small amounts of power...
so, that being said, I think Greenpeace is full of shit just as much as any government!

i understand this:
there's a slight chance that this situation could arrive (abrupt global warming = cause).
in this hypothetical scenario, there is a chance that this could be a result (the oceans' water level rising and drowning cities etc. = consequence).
i see this hypothesis hidden inside another hypothesis as an exponential level of uncertainty. this scenario would in this case be quite inprobable.
on the other hand,if the pentagon made the effort to study such a scenario, in which global warming would abruptly affect the planet in three years or so, i take it it must mean that global warming is indeed a major, major threat. maybe not in three years' time, but sooner than we think.
and another thing, i think i'll have another beer.

This is so hyped up, just like terrorism. (Did you know worldwide, on average 600 people die a year from terrorist attacks) oooh scary.
The report is hypothetical.... Like hypothetically, if I forgot to wash my hands before eating, it could eventually lead to everyone dieing from a deadly new bacteria....(or not)
I think the key word is COULD...........this is FAV+

Zeus: Thanks for the link! I'm totally on your side,
2007 or not, if humans read just a teeny tiny bit , they would realize that everything is more fucked up then ever right now (politically [fucking OBVIOUSLY], environmentally, and economically). No one sees any of this shit so they just don't care/ don't think it is happening.
And worse of all the reason why people are so intimidated by these "Make things better" groups is because they have the image of washing a whale/bottle feeding some orfin tigers or some fucking ridiculous 'church of Jesus Christ' scenario like that.
Like seriously, if people were a little more conscious about anything that isn't TELEVISION then everything would be good. BUT we are all so fucking lazy and dont want to be bothered. Then you have some asshole activist telling you "If we all did our part..." but then that sounds like work so automatically everyones turned off and it's just this cycle of fucktards scaring each other off.
Example of hardly doing any work to make something better: If ever member of this board (3192 members, but for the benefit of the doubt I'll say 2000, the 1192 are to be concidered abandoned accounts, double accounts blah blah blah) put 25 cents into an envolope and sent it to Phobiazero according to my windows calculator we would have raised ...
2000 X 0.25 = 500
$500 for the site! And it took such little effort too. Sure the stamp would problebly cost a dollar, but who cares?
Anyway I don't mean to rag on anyone here but in defense to the guy who thought you all might want to know that, well we may be killed in a few years, I thank him for passing the along the news.
