plaid DOES grow on you

Double Figure is really good after some listens...I find
tracks like Zamami, Ooh Be Do, Light Rain and Ti Born very
emotional and accelerating.

Thanks to everyone that said I should check them out. Think
I'm going for Not For Threes next.

I think you are confusing Plaid with a yeast infection.

don't make things grow on you! if you don't like it
instantly, it's shit!

I hate when people are all "so, i started hanging out with
these people who listened to this music, and at first, I
thought it was shit, but it really grows on you"

When stuff grows on you, it is because it becomes familiar,
not that you particularly like it.

quote: "Double Figure is really good after some listens.."

which means: "it was crap, but then I listened to it.. A
LOT, because I wanted my friends to think i am cool. now, it
doesn't sound like shit anymore."

although.. taste is different, so different people may
like/dislike different things instantly, but if YOU think it
is shit, don't listen to it. Listen to things you think are
good!

i don't remember exactly but i think one of my favourite
albums grew on me...

no one wanted me to listen to that as no one even knew
it...it's just that i probably wasn't focused on listening
the 1st time. if i wanted to be cool cuz of my friends i'd
be listening to shitty music which would drive me insane -
honestly.

some stuff definately had to grow on me,
i didn't like confield instantly for instance, i thought it
was weird and nothing special, but after more and more
listen it became more interesting and now i love it
with the early autechre (esp. incunabula) it's the other way
around for me, i loved it at first but it became less
interesting after a while

If I'd given up on some music the first time I'd heard it
I'd have missed out on some of the most amazing stuff ever
released.

if you mean that you would miss cool stuff by artists whose
first song was something you thought was shit, i have to say
that i don't want you to not listen to the artist. artists
have both good and bad shit. you would just not have to
listen to the bad shit.

i prefer music that grow on you as you listen to it over the
instantley accessible music, that later usually gets old
quicker...

I find that the songs I think are shit the first time I hear
them most of the time end up as just staying shit.

it has nothing to do with accessibility.. I've liked most of
AFXs stuff that i've heard on first listen (the only songs I
can remember not liking is Grass, Mold and the one on Druqks
where there is no music, just sounds of a woman giving birth
or something like that). That is in spite of the fact that
many people call afx inaccessible.

I used to think it was ok on first listen but now I can't
listen to anything by plaid, for some reason their sound
annoys the hell out of me. Every time a Plaid track comes on
my itunes playlist i skip it. Might even delete all their
tracks.

WHAT THE FUCK?! I'm trying for once to discuss some music in
an innocent way, and BAM! I get bashed for trying to like it
to much....what's up with you...

I didn't like Vsnares at first, but some of it I enjoy. I
didn't like all aphex albums at first, but I saw the quality
in some songs anyway.

Don't fucking be so judgmental. I'm not trying to make
friends through music. I'm trying to find music to like. So
fuck of with your "because I wanted my friends to think i am
cool" attitude.

This is music...NOT politics

well. i guess you will chose your own way, but I personally
never listen to (or eat or watch) something i do not
instantly like.

it must be a compliment that i'm still talking to you, then.

dude..If you have children, and at first you don't like the
thought, will you then just get rid of them?

I think the thought of quitting things you don't like very
'pop'. Since the modern pop-world only listens to the things
served, and only grabbing what they instantly like, I think
you might be better off with pop.
I don't like pop, but I do like underground music. For me,
underground music grows on you, and the music you experience
from related artists, gives you access to a whole new
world.
This is not absolutely a good thing, where as
'pop-listeners' also could push themselves into listening to
underground music. Which would lead to 'pop'-ing the
underground music to the surface.

I understand your 'anger' against music growing on people,
cause it's weird for you to put your influence under
pressure, but I think you can only stick to expressing your
thoughts. People will listen to what they want.

Although music can grow on you I can understand where
Drunken Mastah is coming from. If you listen to something
very often it becomes familiar and you sometimes like it for
that reason. I want music to have an instant impact on me,
that's the songs I like. Everything grows on you if you give
it time unless it's real crap.

complex and you can't apprreciate it all in one go.

While I agree much music needs to grow on you, I really like
it when there's something that strikes me on the first
listen..
If you find it incredibly boring on the first listen,
there's a good chance you won't like it at all.

Contrary to if you listen to say, a new autechre ep, like
gantz graf, and everything is noisy as hell and you can't
really make sense of it, to just put it down after the first
listen would be a terrible mistake.

Your mind has to sort of get familiarized with it first,
then start appreciating all the details.
Also I find that most music, even if I like it on the first
listen, becomes better and better when you repeat them.
Cause then you sort of sing along in your head, and you wait
for that special part in the song, or that special
instrument you like.

And in the end you end up knowing the whole song by heart,
and you love it when you play it on repeat.
That's the good stuff IMO.
