i've ordered a technics sl-1210-mk2, and I need a dj-mixer
to fit it (i'm buying another turntable later...)

can someone recommend something?

What type of mixing are you planning on doing?

normal dj-mixing, but i also plan to make music using
scratches and cuts and all that. some dj shadow-ish stuff.

bumpity-bump

should probably mention that i have been recommended vestax
and numark mixers, but.. some of them has weird descriptions
(at least in the places where I've looked) which doesn't
really tell if they are any good.. often when people
advertise something, but avoid the "what can it do?"
-question, it is because it can't really do anything useful.

Hmm... that's a tricky one.

If you're doing normal beat mixing/dancey type stuff you may
well want one with three channels, frequency kills, fx send
return etc. all of which tend not to feature on scratch
mixers. You can get mixers with those sort of features that
have a variable crossfader curve, but they tend not to be as
sharp a cut in as a dedicated scratch mixer.

The Raine TTM-56 is getting great reviews/recommendations as
a hybrid "normal" and scratch mixer, but it's pretty
expensive.

I'd advise you to consider which is more important to you,
scratching or club style mixing and then go for a mixer
within that category. Of course- you can beat mix with a
scratch mixer (soften the crossfader curve, or even just use
the upfaders in the softest curve setting) and scratch with
a normal mixer, so it's not really a case of only being able
to do one. Just which you'd rather be able to do more of.

i'm planning on using the turntables mostly for making
music. i will be using them to create drums, scratches and
variable effects.

i think that, opposed to electronica, I will do more
hip-hop-ish stuff, and not too much normal club dj'ing..
although.. i would like to keep my options open.

so I guess I'm looking for a mixer which is best at
scratching and creating breakbeats and such (preferrably
with more than two channels.. two normal mix-channels + a
mic or line in). the adjustable curve sounds nice to have,
too..
