finally got this cd a few days ago.

it's the best thing I've heard in ages. very very intricate,
very subtle.

beautiful changes in dynamics within tracks. great
melodies.

listening to this instantly makes me feel like it's summer
already.

Fucking brilliant album, in heavy rotation in the mouse
ears.

Criminally underappreciated!

lots of Dutch samples on "The Lemon..".. oh yes!

the male vocal samples in nr. 4 (is it "bonanza"..?) are a
Dutch voice. my guess is it's from an old dutch childrens
program called "de fabeltjeskrant", but I'm not sure.

yes! has such a great build, great structure!

this album makes me feel like stopping to make music myself.
which is a good sign. :)

I like that they can play their instruments like crazy in
the conventional sense, but they're not doing anything
conventional and dull with those skills. They have found the
secret path where music meets art without descending into
anti-music...

qrter, the first album is great too - is it still in print?
If not I have VBR MP3s of it...

This cd is amazing, probably my favorite of the year.
Everyone should try to find their first album... Thought For
Food. I like it even better.

it's hard to find, as far as I can tell. I have ordered it
at some huge online store, and they do sometimes find
hard-to-find stuff, it only takes ages.

maybe I'll have to take you up on those mp3's until I find
it..

did you see the 7" they released too? supposedly two songs
from the first album, I think. bought that too. they still
have it at boomkat.com, I think.

I'm fleetmouse on slsk - are you qrter, or do you use some
silly made up name like Ian Noll?

Tell me and I'll put you on my list.

I think Thought for Food was a more jarring impressive
experience, being the debut of their sound and technique...
I wonder if qrter will have the opposite experience having
heard Lemon first...

Glad that you got it, Alex. It's a favorite of mine. It's
just plain stupid that there aren't more people talking
about these guys.

I like the first record, but this one is just right on.

That Albert Einstein sample @ 1:16 in the track There Is
No There
is beautiful.

I know of it, but I haven't heard any. I'm very interested,
whether it's like The Books or not.

The "Willscher" album has some great bits where he's
treating stringed instruments (guitar mostly I guess) as
percussion, similar to some of the stuff he does on the
Books albums but more abstract... not as exciting as Books
but I like it.

The other one I have is Solutiore of Stareau disk one. Very
long ambient piece in 14 parts, some lovely textures but not
for the impatient.

Apparently you can order some of his early stuff on CD-R
directly from him at the Books website.

doubtful... given that they're more regarded as electronic
collage artists than singer-singwriter types... i wouldn't
imagine you'd be able to find them anywhere... i suggest
sitting down with the album and figuring them out
yourself... then you can post them somewhere and the world
will be indebted to you

I think "lemon of pink" is a better album than "thought for
food".

TfF is okay, but it's too much a compilation of "stuff they
did" - as a whole album the composition isn't that great.
LoP works really well as a complete album. also I think they
sound more subtle on LoP - it feels as if TfF is the step
they had to take to be able to make LoP.

Heh, i was just reading that interview you posted when i was
looking for an appropriate thread to bump. It is indeed
interesting, especially the idea of having a huge library of
places that they've "heard". That really appeals to me.
