The fact you said your own track rules made me feel angry,
thus lowering my expectancy of this track to around 17%.

The beats are very good as usual. I just think the music
needs something extra. It just sounds a bit dry and lacking
in emotion. I will listen again though.

I suppose this track has a certain purpose and probably I
ought to have a more open mind. I like the idea all the
same. Emotional not much there to grab on to though. I think
Photek captured the Samurai spirit very well in his tracks
but this is just lacking a bit. For what its worth more of a
fusion between the beats and the textures would be a welcome
development.

How long did it take you to do out of interest? What sort of
equipment do you use too?

well it took me, at the most, maybe two hours.

i recorded the thumb piano (the metallic melody at the
beginning) and the bamboo recorder myself, playing them
live. The strange samples of voices were sampled from a
vinyl of Vietnamese folk.

I use the freeware Hammerhead and Microsoft Sound Recorder.
Sounds were recorded with a V-Tech microphone and a Numark
TT-1510 turntable. The thumb piano was actually hand-made in
South Africa, though I'm sure the bamboo flute was part of a
mass produced surplus, because it was three dollars.

For two hours its pretty impressive. Don't you use a
sequencer though, how do you program all your beats in?
Don't u use Cubase or Fruityloops or something?

no sir. i build some sequences with hammerhead, others i
build by cutting and pasting w/ sound recorder, and i mix
everything in sound recorder.

Sounds complex. I have no idea how u use Sound recorder to
do that. Sounds a like a real bitch.

it is, but that's the way i like doing it, and so far it
hasn't let me down. it's all mathematics - when you know
mathematics and apply it to sound, anything is possible. cut
and paste my friend, cut and paste.

I downloaded it and listened but that was a while ago and
I've forgotten how it sounded, and now I'm going to bed so
just know this: I didn't dislike it.

I've always found editing in Soundforge for instance a
bitch. You know to cut and paste bits and bobs. Just
wouldn't know where to begin. I've tried but not yet
succeeded. It always sounds a mess. :-(

Your beat work is brilliant yet again. I does lack emotion,
sort of another drill track by numbers. I think if you get
down to it, and really felt what you were making you could
come up with something amazing.

Yeah I agree with ecnadniarb. I think for two hours work its
good but if you spent a couple of days on a track then it'd
probably be wicked.
