Delerium (or Frontline Assembly)

I liked Frontline Assembly for a long time, especially when
I was into industrial and found out about VNV Nation and was
enthralled. I love the remix album "Rewind" that frontline
assembly put out still, some great mixes of their pieces

Not too much into that anymore because I found out it wasn't
as good as other music (like IDM).

Delerium however is still amazing, the female vocals are
something I'd love to produce and with the vocalist I'm
starting to work with I think we could pull that off in some
ways.

What do you guys think of Delerium? Songs like Innocente,
Silence with Sarah McGlaughlin, Terra Firma, etc, etc

ive personally never been so much into the front line side
of things...

somehow comes off really contrived and tacky to me.

Well yeah... but they're better than normal industrial

That's like critiquing the music of gwar

side-projects, and soem stuff on invisible back in the day
(pigface, dvoa, etc)

unless you wanna count stuff like the swans, but i think
thats getting further away from "industrial"

the only delerium i heard was the 'karma' album, which i
thought was great. absolutely beautiful lineup of female
vocalists they had there. i've got a hold of some other
stuff, but haven't listened yet.

Yeah, I'm not too fond of FLA anymore myself... NIN, Skinny
Puppy, the guys who kept industrial going, they're amazing.

I just like the contrast between the absolutely beautiful
stuff from Delerium and the FLA albums

its kinda odd, the contrast... to quote glasse, it really
gives off the "session-musician" feel a little bit.

some of the earlier delerium was strange too, not at all
what it became.

Definitly, it was weird watching the progression into
mainstream sounds... and so many arpeggios... still, great
vocal choices and lyrics

I just went to the website and downloaded the single.
Craptastic. Do they collaborate with DJ Sammy?

I haven't heard their new album, the first couple, Karma and
Poem, were good for what they were

Delerium has gone from more dark medieval ambient-ish
sinisteresque moody stuff to pop radio. Which is not
necessarily a bad thing (despite how that might sound).

I can't relate much to their earlier albums, but Karma is my
personal favorite because at the time, I was looking for
music "similar to Enigma" and that hit the spot on a nice
tangent. I found the consistency level of each track to be
strong, not just the singles. Hummable tuneage too! Poem
moved further away from that, and Chimera even moreso. I
like a lot of Top 40 pop but the new Delerium just did not
appeal to me much, despite tracks like "Eternal Odyssey"
which was sort of a nod back to their sound in the late
90s.

If I had to name a favorite song, it'd be hard but I like
"Aria" for its odd yet catchy mixup of the ubiquitous Amen
Break with Medieval Babes (really, that's their name). The
melodies are magical and the video is classy too.

i really like the track serenity off the latest album, seems
like a good mixture of sounds from earlier albums.

Is there any similar albums with this kind of music apart
from Enigma?

Hm, well it's on a tangent but I'm a big fan of:

Deep Forest - Deep Forest
and
Deep Forest - Boheme ("Marta's Song", with the ethnic
singing and that violin solo is the BOMB)

Later albums kind of cover different geographic regions but
something in the tunes themselves wasn't as catchy to me.

There was a list I found once called "Enigmatic artists" of
similar musicians... BT and Sasha's unreleased "Warrior
Song" is also very good. I've also heard praise for
Amethystium, and let's see who else now... some Dead Can
Dance, maybe?

The best from front line assembly is Noise unit's Drill.
This album is fantastic... It seems bill leeb and them
practically are their genre... and that album is the best
example imo.

i bought Delerium's Semantic Spaces for 2 dollars today at a
flea market. it's a wonderful album. as good as karma?
probably not. similar though.

artists like delerium, deep forest, enigma, dead can dance,
amethystium, adiemus, etc, often walk a fine line between
interesting and cheesy. delerium and dead can dance less so
than the others.

dead can dance is fantastic; adiemus is at times, also.
