Surfing in Work

How do all you guys out there with jobs, manage to get away
with posting all day here. Surely you must be on some
network that has some form of logging. And how do you hide
the fact that you have XLTronic open on the screen when
other employees might be around?

*pauses of a minutes silence*
Poor Thad :(

i've got my own office, and i use firefox, so i can either
ctrl+w, or ctrl+tab and hide my surfing.

i post on at least three other forums as much as i do here.

<-- least productive person ever.

My monitor is pointed at a discreet angle so the two people
either side of me can't see what's on it. I don't give a
fuck about logs, I'm looking at porn most of the time -
there's so many people here IT haven't got the time to check
it thoroughly (so my source says) and I use someone else's
password (if not IP address) to access the net.

my boss couldnt give a dick and a shit about what I do on
the comp.

I basically sit here, waiting to check out gear to people...
nothing else really... so we can do whatever we like in our
free time that we are waiting for someone to help.

sweet.

i have my own office. i only surf when I don't have anything
to do.. which is most of the time because I'm so efficient
whenever i get a job, so it'll be finished like 20mins after
I get it.

We have core hours, between 10 and 12 and 2 til 3 when we
can't surf. But I'm a renegade and laugh in the face of
their rules. Fuck the Welsh Assembly.

it's ok dude! he surfs so he is allowed to use those words.
Surfing also grants you use of words such as gnarly,
awesome, radical, totally, fresh and exquisite (as in 'that
wave was quite exquisite) :)

Well I use the active desktop to keep an eye on the page. I
just refresh it every now and then. When I'm actually
looking at the page I do it like this:

When I worked I was on here a lot more.

Tricks:

Engage in subtle replacing of desk/screen to shield view of
screen.

Don't DL any big files at work (the few people whose
internet usage was investigated was based on the employees
who used most bandwidth. I was on XLT/doing personal email
lots of the time, but the actual number of MB UL/DLed by me
was very small.)

Actually do your job- if your productivity is high managers:

a) Won't investigate your net usage
b) Will turn a blind eye to it if they see.

My job involved lots of small periods of waiting (for phone
line modems to dial up, documents to print, files to copy,
install bars to progress etc.) So I used to just use XLT to
fill those small gaps. I do the same now- I'm rarely just
"on the board", I'm usually waiting for graphics/sound to
render, docs to print etc.

Become friends with at least one person in the dept that
monitors internet usage. That way you can find out the
monitoring policy and also if you're under investigation. I
used to play CS with one of ours and he had far more
questionable net usage than me so I was fine.

Well my good friend this is how its done.

I dont give a fuck what they think I dont give a fuck who
they be....that's me singing.

No really I know they can check where you go on the internet
but they mainly take notice if youre going on porn sites
constantly. My boss has walked into my office when I've had
this page open with FREAKY EYES looking back at him, but he
doesnt care. He knocks anyway (RESPECT BITCH) so i usually
minimize and on the screen is the database i should be
looking at :>

I'm at work now and I have 19 applications open at the
moment so no boss can see the difference between xltronic
and the other web based applications we use all the time, so
I'm safe. And everyone here mail lots of junk to eachother
all the time, including da boss...

They TELL me that they monitor our internet usage, and I
never see anyone else surfing the net at work, so I don't do
it much myself.

Fuck, I'd love to be able to surf freely. I do occasionally
read some sports pages and interesting computer related
things (that sort of IS my work), but I'm not a big surfer
there. I've been thinking I'll test drive it though. Spend a
day on a messageboard and see if I get roped. I'm a good
worker so I doubt they'd fire me for that one hiccup.

I get lots of time to read magazines and eat stuff between
taking calls, precious moments. Don't you get any leisure
time or spare minutes to mess around?

I kind of wish my job was like that, it would make the days
go faster. They're as slow as a slug slugging through
mollases.

but I only work 5 hours a day so I dont really need a
break... if it where 8 hours I surely would need some break
for lucnh and some other break too

Sadly I dont get the water and waves in my office to be able
to surf. I can only use the internet because my boss allows
me. My boss is the greatest boss in the world. My boss is
me.
