i've been talking with my parents about taking some online computer courses herefor programming, web design, etc, etc, etc. (i already know the website of theirs is stupid and annoying, and so are their television adverts)
basically learn some computer shit, and i was wondering if anyone here has ever done anything of the sort, and if there's some downsides to it that i am too stupid to realise, like not being able to get a job with the certifications, and it being a waste of money and such.
i am already pretty durned good at some of the stuff, but do you think it is worth it to take some of these courses to say i was "certified" to a possible employer? or is a real college an infinitely better solution?
/any other thoughts?

When searching the internet for information on whether something like that is good or bad, you'll probably tend to come across a vast majority of biased information made by the companies own advertising saying it's good. It might be easy to weed out these and only read any negative critisism instead since that tends to be honest.
You might try searching google for simple negative statements people might make somewhere in the millions of pointless blogs people post everywhere such as "smart certify direct" + "waste of money" or "smart certify direct sucks" etc. to see if they turn up matches. This isn't helpful but I feel a need to respond to nearly every topic because I'm a bored loser.

In google, "smart certify" + "rip off" returned this link in which 3 people talk negatively of it:
