...sounds so damn cool.

I have to admit I am more than a little ignorant about
French rap, and the stuff I have heard I have forgotten the
names of. Anyone able to recommend me some goodness?

Good for you. I am most happy at your preference, but I was
asking about French.

All I know is that my little brother was watching an episode
of that horrible Disney show called 'So Weird' and the girl
named Annie said something about how she used to like
'techno and French rap'. I was bewildered and a bit
annoyed.

french rap is wicked when it's nice and smooth cuz the
language flows so much better than stupid english...

check MC Solaar... he's got some pretty killer tracks, my
personal fave is "Un Nouveau Westerne"

please avoid taxi2 (worst mainstream rap EVER!!!) or mc
solar, he's crap

instead check:
DSL (on air's label recordmakers)
TTC (on ninja tune or something, they're fans of Ae i
heard!)

I love the Taxi films, like Fast and the Furious, but done
with so much more style and a better soundtrack.

when jarre-michel jarre plays that pretend light synth he
always has his mouth open. its as if the sound is coming out
of his mouth.

IAM too but I haven't heard much of their recent stuff

yeah i would've recommended Ghislain Poirier... but both
albums he released last year had 2 or 3 french rap tracks a
piece... hopefully in the near future, he will release a
whole album's worth... (although, really, he is good because
he's a good producer, not because his mc collaborators are
good...)

is the other album as good as conflits?

people keep talking sbout how crappy Solaar is... is he
really disgustingly mainstream or something? are his lyrics
terrible? i mean, i wouldn't know... i just think it sounds
nice... but now i'm curious...

i like solaar...have two of his albums as well :)

i actually prefer it, but i haven't listened too much to
Conflits yet... the other album ("Beats as Politics") is
very good upbeat production...

gonna definitely check that one, then.

wtf an entire thread about French Rap and nobody really
mentionned except 1 about IAM. IAM is the heart of the
entire movement.

Just get IAM's "L'école du Micro D'Argent". It's the
mofo'iest French Rap album ever. It's the Dark Side of the
Moon of French Rap. LOL
