Broken sounds nice man. Quite similar to Plaid material,
like the drum beats, and nice melody

Like the hihat triplets on down your feathers. Nice
programming, i dont like the crash cymbals tho.

The piano melodies are great

Yeah the crashes were the only thing that put me off, other
than that a well structured track

music for video games I love chronologichimes that song
owns!

now listening to and enjoying downyour feathersfall. lots of
good melody - especially that piano which is damned pretty.
and that hard percussion loop that kicks in around 1:30 or
so is fucking wicked. my only suggestion would to be make
the low-end a bit stronger - i hear mostly midrange and
highend - perhaps some low sines or some subtle bass hits.
other than that, this track is quite solid. well done.

i listened to downyourfeathersfall and broken. i like the
melodies but i think the sounds need a bit more variety.

to summarize i think the main strengths are the melodies and
the programming. the weakness is in sound selection.

these are nice tracks but maybe could use some more buffing
out. maybe some subtle effects to make the beats more
dynamic. and i think oddio is right in saying it needs some
low-end accompanyment or harmonization.

not bad stuff though. thanks for sharing.

offline Q4Z2X on 2004-02-09 19:47 [#01066278]

broken - not bad, not bad. i like the old school-sounding
synths and melodies especially. the drum sounds kinda aren't
really my thing in some parts, but they fit interestingly in
their rhythmic accenting to it.. sorta spastic and haphazard
sounding. i really like the melodic type parts at around 50
seconds in. the melodies are gorgeous, but i would say your
beat sounds might need a bit of work. they might sound a bit
better if you tweaked some of the individual percussion
samples up a bit more so they were a little less generic
sounding. i had the same trouble a while back, but if you
experiment and screw around enough with the sounds, you can
make even basic, overly used drum samples sound unique. i
wanted to give you a bit of constructive criticism.. i just
think your songs would be more stand-out with a bit more
experimentation. besides my minor quibbles, it's a nice
little song.

improve without it?

downyourfeathersfall - i agree about the lowrange,
definately needs some bass. the melodies are decent in this
song (dont get me wrong, they are pretty, but not very
"hooking" to me), but what really stands out is the drums, I
think you did some cool stuff with the rhythms in this song.

broken - I don't like the drums as much in this song, but
they are decent. Once again I find the melodies pleasing but
not very hooking. By "hooking," I mean they don't make me
say "SHIT! I wanna hear that again!" I think both of the
tracks as a whole would benefit from a little bit less
repetition.

All in all I'd say you're on the right track, but still
missing something.

I really liked "down your feathers fall". The piano part is
great. Reminds me of mid-90's dance/r&b, only mixed with
drill. That's a good thing in my book. One thing I didn't
like was the crash cymbal sound you kept using. Overall very
nice track!

i like the melodies, but it sounds TOO midi. experiment a
bit with attack and decay and less quantizing.

Two nice tracks here, both different.

'Down your feathers fall' had a nice fast harsh pace to it
and seemed the most developed.

My favourite was probably Broken because it seemed to have a
bit more content.
Broked was smoother and had nice melodies. I think both
need a little more work. Let us know when you've got more!

Instead of making another thread I decided to use this one.
These are 3 new songs I was thinking about adding to a demo
I wish to send out. They are not done and I would like your
opinions on what to do with them as well as your overall
opinions on the songs themselves. Thank you for your time!

i listened to Celestial Meadows - very nice - the chimes go
really well with that little percussion/reverse bit - i
think if you have the song develop into a verse with a more
definable deep bass part maybe using 10ths it could develop
into a really great track - so far its good.

False Prophet Drummer

I like this a lot...I think the drums would have benefited
from a little externalization or however you americans would
describe it...at the moment they sound a little central and
flat...but the tune in general is really really nice.

Celestial Meadows

Nice ambient peice...I can imagine it sitting nicely between
two heavier beat driven tracks on an album or EP.

Pendulam

Hmm the track is nice...I can't help but wonder how it would
have sounded with a different drum sample in place of the
one you used...something a bit more unusual...I think the
track would probably go from being good to excellent. At
the moment the drum sounds you have used make it sound a bit
like generic drum and bass. I like the section at about the
3 minute mark though.

not really panning. there are a few plugins and stuff you
can use that sort of make samples sound little further apart
in the sound field...I am shit at describing what I mean...I
just know how I want things to sound :P
