i have this n64 game (Mischief Makers) that seems to be bugged now... it used to work fine, but now it freezes and no matter what i try to do, it freezes at some point... =/
i tried erasing the old save file, it used to bug at 'Migen Shrine' all the time, but now it freezes at 'Clanpot Pot' all the time instead.
on the back of the cartridge it says you have to clean your cartridges regularly but i don't know how i'm supposed to do this?! there isn't much to clean... (i'm tempted to buy the game again, as i'm pretty sure there is nothing to do - but i'm asking, just in case of any of you had some advice...)

Blow into the gap of the cartridge, and also into your n64 slot. Use a bit of cloth or something to wipe the 'teeth' of the cart

I used to use and old paint brush or make up brush to dust the inside of the cartridge.
A cloth can work to, but make sure it not one that can scag and leave bits of cloth in there

Haha, don't wet it. Blow the shit out of it though. For fun, pretend you are a big bad wolf and that there are three tiny pigs trapped inside the cartridge. Or you could pretend you are Harry Potter.

you can actually buy cleaning kits for n64 which have specially made pads to wipe cartridge teeth and clean the slot too. seems to work for me.

i couldn't manage to get the game working with cleaning the cartridge... so i bought it again (for 10 euros), in new condition (it would have been a bargain, if...) - and that new cartridge has the SAME problem!!
i'm damned T_T

i'd just worry about keeping your games in a dry yet enclosed place in the future.

nah... if it does the same problem with a NEW cartridge, it must be due to my console or something... (i'll try removing the expansion pak maybe, when i find how to do it...)

That sucks! Michief Makers is great game! As for blowing, I've always done that.. but according to every single thing I have heard from Nintendo both offline and on, blowing is bad because it corrodes the metal. I think was mainly a problem with the older systems though, I would think that n64 should be somewhat immune. I'd give it a shot if I were you.

You should use a compressed air kit...the kind you use for cleaning the insides of computers. You can but aerosol cans of compressed air. The reason you shouldn't blow in the cartridge is because of the water vapour in your breath, it condenses on the contacts and corrodes them.
