Just slammed this baby in my CD player after months of
having not listened to it. Still love it. Even though the
melodies often sound simple, the tracks complemented with
the artwork together make one of the most atmospheric albums
ever produced.

These were my 2 cents.

I sincerely thank you for your attention.

it's one of their best albums, although I do prefer
Lifeforms

Dead Cities: strong "stand alone" songs
Lifeforms: a great earmovie

it's that album for a specific mood. Simple, and nice.
Sometimes simple music is the best music for my ears. Dead
cities tops lifeforms, imo. I know, it's different, but
still...

i was gonna make the same comparison, but couldn't find the
right words. earmovie, that's it!

The artwork is excellent too. Really sets the right
atmosphere. And the tracks are really fitting to the theme
"Dead Cities".

Unfortunately "We have explosives" makes kind of an
annoying interrupt.

'Glass', 'Yage', 'Her Face Forms in Summertime' and

better :P

antique toys is my fav track. but then, the tracklist
could've completely fooled me by making me think it's that
track.

the artwork is lovely indeed.

one more thing, it's 'we have explosive' with no S at the
end. but i shouldn't talk because the same thing could maybe
be said for antique toy(s) as well, i don't remember.

maybe i am one of few here who is not liking this album very
much. it is overrated. i bought it once to listen to it, but
it is nothing more than trance. some tracks are good, but
the rest makes you sick

i had the CD for one year in my collection and i could not
find into that sound. it has good tracks, though, but the
rest is pretty boring. i liked the last tracks better than
the first ones. is this typical FSOL style or would you
recommend me other album of them which are not so
trance-alike?

wannabe-art music. is lifeforms better?

lifeforms is more organic, less beats, just lush
sounds/music. An experience.

less beats! sounds good, somehow i didn't liked the beats on
dead cities. this was one thing i didn't like on the album,
but some melodies were good. i will check out lifeforms.
thnx :)

Lifeforms is FSOL at their peak, i think i know what you
mean about Dead Cities. Lifeforms is like the more ambient
parts of Dead Cities, and its VERY good, one of my favourite
ambient albums.

The Lifeforms EP is great too, with vocals from Liz Fraser

If it's just the track Dead Cities you've heard, I recommend
you check out the tracks I recommended earlier in this
thread :)

The album is stuffed with changing tempos, organic sounds
and other aural yumminess.

for me, the more ambient parts of Dead Cities are the best,
Max, Yage, Vit Drowning / Through Your Gills I Breathe,
Everyone In The World Is Doing Something Without Me are all
excelent.

I like some of the more beat orientated tracks, i just need
to be in the right mood for them.

The Blade Runnner soundtrack by Vangelis is a better overall
album.

I agree that We Have Explosive really does kill the album.
It's my third favourite Dougans/Cobain release (behind
Lifeforms, obviously, and The Isness, not so obviously).
Really sublime and quite surreal mood... definitely drags me
into a city, although at times it seems more alive than
dead. Her Face Forms in Summertime has a stunning guitar
riff, Everyone in the World is Doing Something Without Me is
heart stopping in its beauty, Max, Antique Toy, Glass,
Through Your Gills I Breathe... all stunning.
We Have Explosive is the only track I ever skip, ever, at
all, ever, on the record. That's the only downpoint, along,
perhaps, with the fact that the album version of My Kingdom
is nowhere near as stunning as the EP version (which is my
favourite piece of music by anyone, ever).
I use commas a lot.

Dead Cities is as trance as Amber.

FSOL's best release in my opinion. I made a post a ways
back saying how Max+Antique Toy flow together so well, much
how 'Kalpol Intro' and 'Bike' do. Dead Cities is a
masterpiece...easily one of the best releases of the 90s.
And don't even get me started on how flawless the song
'Glass' is....ahhh, I'm going to go listen to this album
again now. :]

ISDN is more like drum &bassy

all FSOL releases are quality ( 'cept the issness, that's
just out there)

If you buy lifeforms and this you'd be one happy camper.
Trust everyone in thris thread.

DEAD CITIES is genius, I love this album, especially when I
have the time to listen to it from begining to end. Any FSOL
news?

FSOL news? They're playing Coachella, Isness follow-up and
(finally) Dead Cities follow-up in the works. Divinity
single some time in the coming weeks/months.

ISDN is their most... percussive. Their rawest. Lots of
trip-hop, even hip-hop and jazz bits. Their least accessible
release, I suppose. I've had it for years, and still get the
feeling I don't quite understand it.

i may be one of the few who thinks that ISDN is their best
album.
but this has antique toy and everyone in the world...so its
great simply for that.

this album is cool but it goes on way too long...unlike
Lifeforms which i could just listen to for hours.
