Fuck do I know about vodka? Had an urge for a vodka orange, and the bevee shop had some Russian stuff, Absolut and Finlandia. I bought the Finlandia on the principle that good minimal ambient techno (Pan Sonic) and good operating systems (Linux) come from Finland. I'll never buy Absolut - I don't care how good it is, it makes the statement I OBEY MY CONSUMER PROGRAMMING. So yeh, vodka and orange tonight, and probably Lost in Translation if I ain't too trashed. |

It's not bad at all. My current "commonly available" favourite is Altai. Polish vodka is where it's at though IMO. |

I saw at least one Polish brand there, have to try it next time. Just had a straight shot of the Finlandia right out of the freezer - man is it ever smooth and clean. I mean, by my standards, and I'm hardly a vodka expert. |

Yes, you really notice the difference with quality vodkas when drinking it: straight, without ice and fresh out of the freezer. The reason most people (even those who'd happily drink whiskey straight) balk at drinking vodka straight is that its comparatively neutral taste has made it a popular choice for mixers. As a result, people use cheap vodka in cocktails (it's fine to, I do), but they're rough as old boots to drink straight. When they try a nice vodka straight they're suprised by how easily it goes down. I consider cheap "mixing" vodkas to be like cooking wine- fine for what it's intended for, but not much else ;) |

Do it with cream instead of milk if you want it as slammers rather than a long drink :) Isn't the thing you described a white russian? Whatever it is, it's a staple of the poker nights friends and I hold. |

I have discovered that the buzz from good Vodka is not like the buzz from other alcohols. You don't feel drunk dumb and slurred like, you get happy and playful! Amazing stuff. From now on I am going to capitalize the word Vodka out of respect. |

Yes, Spar brand vodka tastes just as good as Altai. Only posers drink more expensive types. :P |
