Ok, I took the cover art from Sufing on sine waves and
cropped out all the sky, so that only the rocks and water is
left.. I pasted this into a new image so that it had the
white/gray checkers in the background, which I thought meant
that the rest would be transparent, which is what I want.
But when I put it into my webpage on dreamweaver, it's not
transparent, the sky is just white again. Anyone know how I
can get it to be transparent on my site? Please check out my
dreamweaver help thread if you're good at that too.
Thanks!!! :)

there should be a color replace function somewhere (havent
used photoshop for ages), just replace all the white with
transparent. also, you'll have to make sure the image is a
gif. i dont think jpgs can have transparent elements.

You need to save it as a .gif for transparency to work

in photoshop: do 'save for web', save it as a gif, make sure
the transparency checkbox is checked.

.jpg does not support transparency.

.png24 does support transparency, but crudbox internet
explorer does not fully support PNG files... so, it requires
a little bit of trickery to work... and it still isn't 100%.

ok, I got it transparent now by saving it as a gif, thanks
everyone. Now the problem I'm having is making buttons for
my webpage, and also getting text to be able to appear over
the transparent part of the main pic (basically I need to
know how to make the picture the bottom layer and text the
top layer)... If anyone knows how to do this please post
here or contact me with AIM at CozmoQ16. thanks again.

easy in dreamweaver. just go to insert then layer. place
your pic in the layer. you can then position the player to
wherever you want. once its where you want it, go to window
then layers, and lock the layer. this stops it from moving
accidently.

then just make another layer and put whatever you like in
it, and put it where you want. if you want to overlap layers
make sure "prevent overlaps" is unchecked in the
window/layers menu.

you can change the order layers appear by moving them from
bottom to top in the window/layers menu.

yep. you need to read up on cascading stylesheets.

specifically, DIVs, absolute positioning, and
background-image.

although there's probably quite a few different ways to
accomplish what you're wanting, it's not really as easy as a
sentence or two.

here's a good reference, but if you're completely new to web design
it would probably be good to spend some time reading up, and
asking questions on a web design forum or two.
