Have you guys heard about this new movie directed by Mel
Gibson? It looks kind of interesting for a Jesus/Religeous
film.

I dont know how anyone could take christianity seriously.
its only 2000 years old. free masonry has existed in its
root form for almost 7000 years. it speaks well to say "it
has served us well, this myth of christ"... pretty much what
im saying is god, christian or not probably exists, if you
dont think so thats cool, but what I mean is like uh....
ya... its just a book, have faith in what you know in your
heart.

the movie.

any publicity is good publicity, the more buzz the better

in the end, it's just a movie, one I won't see anyway, so
yeah, talk amongst yourselves

The Last Temptation of Christ was marvellous. I cannot see
how a religious movie could top it, but I'm really looking
forward to Mel's epic. I just feel the "epicness" of the
movie will shine over it.

able to contain my urges.

despite my personal interest in the subject matter i'm not
sure that mel gibson would be the person i'd like to see
translating the story to film.

then again, i can't think of who i'd like to see behind the
camera...

not to step on any toes here, but reflex raises some
interesting points (though i'm not so sure about the
validity of his statements about freemasonry). despite
statements attributed to jesus in the new testament, i don't
believe that he founded the christian religion, and believe
also that he warned very explicitly against joining with an
authoritarian worship organization, a warning which has been
excised from orthodox bibles.

jesus and his teachings are distinct from the doctrine of
orthodox christianity. you need not be an orthodox
christian to benefit from his wisdom.

I'll probably go see it with a Catholic friend so we can
have some interesting discussions and maybe come to blows!
:D

Seriously though, it looks like an interesting flick. I'm an
atheist but the New Testament is a pretty good yarn.

Christianity existed for only 2000 years old...

If you look at it as an offshoot of Judaism, then yea. If
you look at the Old Testament and the New Testament as one
continuous document, then no. Christianity is just the next
progression of a religion that starts at the beginning of
time and the Judaisers are those who decided to get off the
train and start their own track when God said this train
keeps on going.

Supposedly Gibson is a Catholic, although not Roman Catholic
I think it is some sort of branch off reform movement. As
far as anti-semitism in Christianity Catholocism has the
worst track record. It is well documented that The RCC gave
support to Hitler as well as provided shelter to Nazi war
criminals after WWII.

This doesn't mean that Gibson is anti-semitic and I have not
seen the film although it sounds interesting either way.

That is a somewhat popular idea among critics of
Christianity, this idea that the teachings of Jesus and the
teachings of Paul are not in harmony with one another.

I would be interested in discussing this with you sometime.
