i'm looking at getting an ipod or a creative zen, around 30
or 40gb, but i've been getting reports from my friends that
the batteries in theirs run out after about 2 or 3 hours of
use (whereas 8 hour life is reported on the ipod site, 12 on
the creative site).. These are brand new (christmas) and
have been this way since they got them.

Does anyone else experience this? Just want to know if it's
something they're doing wrong or if it's an across-the-board
problem; this, coupled with www.ipodsdirtysecret.com kinda
makes me uneasy about investing in one of these mofos.

i wouldn't worry about that if i were you, they now have a
battery replacement scheme which is really cheap, even
cheaper if you do it yourself. As for 2-3 hours, its
definately more than that, I used to own one, I got about 6
hours.

My new iPod (20g) gets about 7-8hrs. I'm never away from a
power source more than that so it doesn't bother me.

7-8 hours.. fine.. as long as it's not the 2 hours they're
reporting. my friend has one of the new 10gb ones and the
other has a 30gb zen, they both experience the same problem.
perhaps they're exaggerating and not noticing how much
they're using it or how little they're charging it.

Well one problem is the battery indicator isn't accurate.
Apple has to fix this soon. You can charge it full and
within 2-3 hours the icon will say it's almost empty. But it
isn't. Hopefully they'll have a update for this soon.

ah that's the problem they're experiencing.

Wasn't there a problem with the iPOD's battery pack. I'm
sure someone posted it a few weeks back.

i have an ipod
i enjoy everything about it
the battery is 8 hours but there is a catch to it..ie you
dont use EQ and the back light
if you are spending the money go ahead and get the 40 Gb if
you can afford it
if you cant borrow money and get the 40 GB

My ipod lasts pretty long. Way more than 3 hours. I use
backlight sparingly, and I dont ever use the built in
clock/calender (i keep them turned off by not initially
setting the clock or date). I dont use the EQ either, and so
far i'm pleased with it.

cool that helps a lot - just one more question guys:

Does the ipod/zen feature gap elimination between tracks? I
mean, with a mix like 2manydjs for example will songs slide
into each other without *any* click or gap?

the only option is to edit the songs into one piece

oh dear :/ that would piss me off a huge amount. thanks for
letting me know; I suspect it's the same with the zen though
- i mean you need a plugin for winamp to remove the gaps, i
doubt there'll be gapless mp3 players for a while yet.

by the way, aesthetics, what's that font/what're the symbols
in your location 'lowlands' ?

I do hope apple will make it possible with the next update
version, I know it is possible because it is all matter of
changing the software.

I will do a search for it, maybe some wizkid made it

btw, try to find it out ;)
