i have the keygen; but not exactly sure how to actually
input it. i'm pretty sure that there's some way i can tell
it i purchased it over the phone, and then proceed to enter
the key; but i'm not sure how to do this.

thanks!

can't help you, but why would you want to? it's the
crappiest program ever.

it uses about 70 mb of memory while running. get something
like f-secure instead.

even though i'm sure that 70mb is quite a bit of mb to some
ppl; i'm running 2gb; so i have the resources.

THe keygen i have (by TMG) says that it needs a phone
challenge code...but when i launch norton; it just asks for
the a trial, or if i've already purchased it and want to
enter the actual product code; not if i would liek to
purchase it, then i can click on the phone, then i can get a
"phone challenge code." :P

ok. 2 seconds of google gave me this:

"When you open NIS 2004, it asks to activate your product.
Disconnect your net connection or block access to the NIS
activation component from your firewall and hit activate.
Wait awhile, and then hit cancel. It'll say that it had an
error reaching the server. Hit activate by phone, and then
you'll be given a phone challenge code."

it's still a crappy program though, no matter what resources
you have :) f-secure is cheap and good.

Okay,

First, Run NAVSETUP.EXE

Second, disconnect your intenet, I'm talking unplug the
cables completely, otherwise it will attempt to connect to
the norton website.

Three, Select Activate Account but skip registration. (it
will say it cant connect blah blah)

Press Retry until it gives you the option to activate over
the phone. Then select that.

Last use the Key Gen again, then enter the code (which you
are supposed to tell the person over the phone) on the Key
Gen, and it will give you the special key. put that in and
thats it.

We're converting our clients over from Norton to
Eset Nod32 whenever possible. It works perfectly and
installs with all the defaults I would have chosen.

most poople's posts on this thread are appreciated; however,
i should have posted that i'm well aware of the "steps" BIG
emphasis on the quotes here, to get the challenge code. And
i've tried many times to get it, but i never get an option
that asks me to "purchase by phone."

Yes, i've googled it. Yes, i've checked my account w/
astalavista and what the culture there has to say. Yes, i've
asked around on other more "elite" sites than xlt. and more
importantly, yes. the cabel is unpluged, yes the drivers for
my onboard lan is disabled.

Norton keeps trying to connect to their servers, and i keep
getting failed messages, but i've yet to get an option that
lets me try to "purchase by phone" or anything simularly
adequate (sp?).

should i try uninstalling it, a clean reg proggy; then try
re-installing it w/ no lan cable in the comp?

are you running xp? i've heard that there's a file that
saves the pc config (which includes how i connect to the
net).

I had a similar problem with Norton Systemworks 2004 Pro. I
gave in, in the end, for the time being. I'm sure I tried
installing it without being connected though. I'll try on my
laptop :)

if you are going to use norton (which isnt the greatest
choice in the first place), why use a cracked copy? That
means you cant connect to their update servers so your virus
definitions will be old and useless and new virii will come
out and you wont be protected from them.

Either go buy norton or another (better) software package,
set up a linux hardware firewall, or use some free virus
protection software.

so does mine. but the software is shit. its the same
principle as windows. you get updates and updates for
updates, and the amount of complaints that are logged due to
update failures, crashes, liveupdate fucking up etc are
unbelievable. if i wasn't computer savvy i'd be buggered.
