"James has no problems with downloading - he does it himself
- and, having secured his financial future, is contemplating
disseminating his music for free. He doesn't see how paying
for music benefits the art - besides creating an income for
the artist."

His point about changing your life to create those
situations that put you in emotional extremes (to make
better art) is a good one. I've often wondered about that
and whether it's part of the reason artists steretypically
have personalities that are susceptible to mood swings.
Perhaps even if they're not doing it intentionally, the fact
that they live life at both ends of the emotional spectrum
helps their work.

A branch of Hardcore - very fast with vocals.

i find for me that just subjecting myself to extreme modes
of art is as much an "event" to be inspired by as having
real things happen in my life

hahaha "I don't like society, it's horrible. I mean, if I
could get to live on an island with my mates, it would be
perfect."

is there such thing as a "sociable" IDMer?

it doesn't really surprise me at all that he said he likes
missy... she's one of the very few entertaining rappers in
mainstream hip hop right now... not to mention that it was
largely in part code language which really meant "i really
dig timbaland's beats for missy elliot"... and you knoow
what? Timbaland said recently that he really likes APhex
Twin and Squarepusher...

"If you know that your art depends on your emotions, then
you know that it's best when your emotions are at extremes,
then you do play around with your life to try and manipulate
your life for your art - which is a bit fucked. It's a bit
sad, really. But I think a lot of musicians, or artists, do
it, 'cause you start to realise - like, you look back and
you think, Oh, I did this track when I was at this point in
my life or I finished with that girl or whatever, so you
start to think, Hmmm, yeah, maybe I'll manufacture those
situations, which isn't very good on the people who maybe
you're playing with, but (whispers) shit happens
sometimes."

found that bit interesting. possibly something to do with
the pressures put on musicians to come up with the
goods...especially rdj since his music has been constantly
evolving
