what kind of person are you? Are you one that tends to get
bored of different genres quickly or do you have an undying
love for the same genre?

I, myself, find that I bounce all over the map constantly.
From jazz to punk to old school hip hop to IDM to death
metal.

I also find it quite odd and wonder if it at all reflects my
personality. I tend to not easily make up my mind. Always
looking at things from different angles.

Undying love for... music. I have a group of favorite
artists, from lots of genres, that I NEVER get bored of.
Actually, I usually just start appreciating them more, and
have a better understanding of WHY I like them so much.

I do go through phases where I'll only listen to, say, twee
pop for a few hours, then I'll only listen to ambient or
something for a the next few. Nothing on a large scale,
though, it's not like I'll go a couple of weeks without
listening to a genre, then just suddenly wake up to it
again.

Hip hop, electronica and drum and bass are all "constants"
(or have been the past few years), I do go through phases of
liking particular genres or artists more and certianly when
making music, I tend to do say 5-10 tracks of one genre
(illbient at the moment) and then switch to something else.

Also as i was thinking about how some of us tend to "bounce"
genres....

do you think that there is a percentage of people that are
dominately IDM listeners that bounce as opposed to someone
who listens to prodominately Rap (ie 3 6 mafia and such)

Does it say something about the openmindedness of the IDM
community?

I am that kind of person that wears pink cap, so that nobody
really knows you

A lot of people seem to think IDM listeners are on a high
horse... dickheads that are just as closeminded as everyone
else, if not moreso. But honestly in my experience, I think
an ''IDM'' listener is more likely to have a broader range
of musical interests. Now, there ARE the handful of twats
that DO denounce anything with a guitar, or anything that's
actual, well, successful, but I usually find out about the
more interesting musiques, electronic and otherwise, by
people with an IDM background. The people that have gotten
me into the best music (of all genres) I've heard have had
an IDM pedigree. That's just my experiences and impression
though, maybe we really are fuckfaces of the highest order,
and I've just been lucky.

I like my music either very ambient and soft, or very noisy
and frantic. And, either very pop-sensible or very
experimental. Middle ground doesn't usually do it for me
(but there are quite a few exceptions).

I'm a fan of melody and harmony, so if something's got a
good beat but a shit poor melody, I probably won't like it
too much.. unless it's a really fucking kickass beat.

i listen to what i like. if i don't like it, i don't
listen.

pretty much the only genre's in which i haven't found music
i really like are SKA and reggae. i mean, i like some of
what i've heard, but i've never really been compelled to
just sit and listen to any of it.
