i guess the real trick is to keep busy.. smoking is
something i do when i have nothing better to do or am
feeling lazy

so yeah today rather than buy another packet of smokes i
cycled to the beach, and by the time i got there i had no
urge to smoke. but when i got to work that all changed :p
poor discipline!

Tear apart some cigarettes, and take the tobacco, then mix
it with a little water so the tobacco sticks together, then
roll it up into a giant tobacco burrito, then eat it, by
that time you should be so sick of cigarettes, the thought
of tobacco will make you want to puke.

offline Skink from A cesspool in eden on 2004-01-20 10:04 [#01041731]

Labium: I don't think that would work with me actually.

Rocken: It would seem to be the best way,i don't really have
that much to do i guess i could go out of my way to write a
new track or something but that might do me in.

How long have you been smoking, and why did you start in the
first place?

offline fat kaimo from Finland on 2004-01-20 10:13 [#01041743]

someone said that the best way to quit smoking is to smoke
as much as you can as fast as you can. stop when you vomit
black liquid. chances are that you'll never want to smoke
again.

Skink, if you really want to quit, stick to that guide, and
follow it. Otherwise you are just kidding yourself about
wanting to quit.

smoking such as energy levels, flow of oxygen through the
blood, better skin, less of a requirement to sleep as much
etc

the most important element is your own resolve,
understanding why you want to quit. i recommend writing
down the reasons you want to quit. for example, you might
feel that you don't want to die prematurely, and that you
want to be able to walk up a few flights without getting out
of breath, and you don't want to stink of smoke, and you
don't want your mouth to taste like an ashtray. be as
complete as possible, every last detail. make a physical
record of everything that's motivating to give up smoking.

whenever you feel the urge to smoke, return to what you
wrote and above all, hang in there! in three days most of
the physical discomfort will be gone, then you've only got
to deal with the psychological stress. it will help if you
can unselfconsciously assert to yourself "i am successful, i
am ending this habit, i don't smoke, i don't want to smoke."
avoid using the forms "i will be successful, i will not
smoke" etc. make the issue one of *now*, not of seven years
smoking in the past, or future temptations.

it's also a very good idea to busy yourself with films,
music, or even a nice long walk. you're not fit, but avoid
caffeine, drink more water and exercise much more than
usual, if you tire yourself out you'll diminish the
possibility of insomnia.
