I used to think I'd never get bored with GTA3... then I beat it and 5 minutes later I knew it would never be exciting again.

The most fun thing about GTA:VC was just riding around exploring the city listening to the music. I didn't care for the missions, I mean come on, dropping bombs on people using an remote controlled plane? What were they thinking?
Before they make the next Grand Theft Auto game, they need to come up with a way to make the game a lot more fun. I can personally think of at least a couple way...

I think the actual, engine of the game was the problem it seemed too close to the "Tony Hawk Pro Skater" games. They need to make a more solid engine for the next GTA.

My favorite recent games are Manhunt and Max Payne 2, both by Rockstar. They're proving they're not one hit GTA wonders.

gta should have a larger selection of cars, maybe include real models...and then allow modifications to performance and handling etc....
then theres the visual issue, the colors are far from realistic, this game needs that extra realism.
other than that, gimme more weapons...cars, tracks, music and add some character interaction functionality, instead of just fighting people, allow the player to hug people and actually go into stores to shop

the problem is that the things you mention would require so much programming that it's more likely to see a completely new engine before those kind of improvements are made to the old engine. I agree with everything you said, though.

I want some RPG elements in the game, I want to be able to use my characters high charisma, communication, and intelligence skills to talk some kids into distracting my enemies for a mere $100, so I can have an easier go at whatever the mission is (and stuff like that to follow).

yeah, open ended RPG's is obviously the best genre, they just give you so much more freedom.
