Stars of the Lid

Here's a duo that definitely doesn't get enough
respect/notoriety.

The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid is one of my favourite
ambient albums. It's a near-perfect album to switch on, lay
down, and float off into a meditative world.

Anyone else dig them?

i am an absolute stars of the lid fanatic. compeltely.
amazing music.

tired sounds is definitely standout, though i think every
one of their albums is just as good in their own respect.
their progression is very interesting throughout the years,
since music for nitrous oxide.

even some of their rarer stuff is awesome (ie "manuevering
the nocturnal hum").

the problem most have with stars of the lid is its drone
music. not a lot of people are fans of drone music because
they have the attention span of 3 year olds.

ballasted orchestra is what turned me onto them. fucking
monumental work, that album. recently ordered the 2LP of it,
extra track included. cant wait. majority of the album is
guitars and a 4 track recorder. and after listening i
couldnt help by wonder how the fuck they did that. being a
drone artist myself now its not as surprising but man,
nobody touches sotl in the field of ambient lately. either
someone clutters it up unecessarily with lots of digital
fractures, or its super minimal.

they are one of the very few artists, who actually know what
they are doing in ambient, in my opinion.

so ah...yeah. i dig them i think.

I've just heard ballasted orchestra, but it is great, I
really like 'drone' if this is drone, it sounds more like
ambient to me, similar to Thomas Koner who I would recommend
also.

Anchor States Part I, has been a favorite of mine for a long
time now.

those songs are perfect for certain moods, love the
soundscapes that run through my head, just closing my eyes,
lying down.

oh yeah

per aspera ad astra is great.

they are more cold and desolate on this album, though there
is still some warmth that shines through in unexpected
moments. they got rid of the darkness that was in "the
ballasted orchestra".

where the ballasted orchestra left off, per apsera ad astra
begins. except its a colder and deeper place.

definitely a great one.

The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid

this is indeed a great album. i don't think it works
particularly well as background music, it depends on the
listener's focus to reveal its subtle depths.
