I just remembered this right now while getting ready for bed, but I wanted to post it now because I'll forget tomorrow.
Apparently they are making a sequel to the mask (just remembered the preview I saw while working at the theatre).. Just like the craptacular adventure that was Dumb and Dumber-ER(dont even get me started on this one), the Mask Sequel will be a prequel (I'm pretty sure), featuring a CGI BABY that gets ahold of the mask. Firstly, if CGI "people" are going to have large parts in movies, they better look as if the creators at least tried to give a shit about the animation/movement of them. Secondly, a spunky, martial arts wielding magical mask-possessed turd-factory is a waste of whatever equipment was used to create the entire film, and frankly in no way should it have ever made it past the first stage of a last-minute brain fart in the planning room. I'm told that the "dancing baby" first appeared in Ally McBeal. Just one more reason for me to hate that show, too.

Well, imo Ace Ventura 2 is one of the only good sequels of comedies that I have seen, but a 3rd installment would only spell disaster.

The Mask sequel preview enraged me. I felt the same way: If you're gonna spend the money and effort making a primarily CGI film, make it look decent and not like a half-assed Jar Jar Binks.
Even my dad, who hates most movies but happens to love the original Mask recently said that based on the preview he has no desire to see the new one. I couldn't help but feel the same way.

you know, I was actually thinking of using Jar-Jar as an example, but tiredness prevented me from really wanting to get into that... scary how films like this actually get produced though, isn't it?

I'd like to witness the meeting they have when they discuss making shitty films like that.

I think this is a really bad idea, they should have just left well alone.

It truly is scary. I feel the same way. I'm glad I was able to pinpoint which example you had in mind.. I am truly baffled that we've had CGI for this long and still can't perfect it. I mean, Gollum was good.. but he still didn't fit seamlessly with the characters. It's still obviously computerized.
Why is it that there hasn't been a single realistic looking CGI movie since Jurassic Park? It's been ELEVEN years since that and it still outdoes anything currently in production. I'd almost rather the film industry take a step backwards and go back to expensive but effective puppets and molds. CGI has lots of possibilities, but the sheer fact that it's abstract and in essence an illusion means that it'll take AGES before we perceive it as fully realistic. Not to mention that CGI movies seem so disposable. Jurassic Park aside, all these new movies are so gimmicky and cheap looking despite staggering budgets. Star Wars was done on a shoestring budget and turned out to be timeless. ET used nothing more than a puppet and is a classic as a result. I just can't see the Mask 2 or any new movie holding a candle to these even decades down the line.

Yeah, I was just thinking "hmm, why is jurassic park still better than all this shit being produced 10 years later?"

hey, funny movies can be good, its just that usually they are pretty lame... of course, that may just be my particular sense of humor talking, so maybe it's just me thinking that most of them aren't even funny. When they include a CGI baby, you know you've got an oscar-calibre film on your hands.
