it's always tricky taking advice from people online
regarding music. some of the "must haves" are my "must
avoids."

therefore VS must never be included in any must have list

must haves for anyone who is tired of the boring so called
'experimentalism' of the contemporary electronic scene:

Todd Docksteader - 8 electronic pieces (1950s)
Hecker - Sun Pandamonium (2003)
Paul Lansky - Conversations (1982)

nacmat, if you are still writing all these down...

A lot of great stuff has been mentioned here, so I'll
validate all the great things i've heard:

Bola - Fyuti
Chris Clark - Empty the Bones of You
Gridlock - Trace
Gridlock - Formless
Lexaunculpt - The Blurring of Trees
----
These are also a definate must have:

D'arcangelo - Broken Toys Corner
Speedy J - A shocking hobby
Speedy J - Public Energy #1
Ilkae - Pistachio Island
Jello - Volle
----

Ilkae is probably one of the most underrated, followed by
Jello and D'arcangelo. If you need help finding these, I
have them on soulseek.

i can't believe no one mentioned the goon.

global goon - vatican nitez (solid all the way through, but
short)
global goon - cradle of history (some great stuff, but some
filler too)

cinematic orchestra - every day (if you are at all
interested in jazz)

dntel - life is full of possibilities (slow, beautiful
soundscapes)

"Bogdan Raczynski - Samurai Math Beats"

Well, I keep hearing how good that album is, but my question
is WHY THE FUCK DID IT GO OUT OF PRINT???!!!

I don't like Samurai Math Beats one bit. It has no charm, no
wit, no grace. It's like a very stupid mentally ill man
doing a long standup comedy routine - mildly funny for about
30 seconds before it becomes excruciating. Crazy people are
often funny and interesting... not this one, not this time.

i like a lot of bogdan songs, but i don't think any of his

songs are good... but most of the time not even...

Gescom - The Sounds of Machines Our Parents Used

tolstoyed, i haven't heard much by venetian snares or luke
vibert, but i haven't heard anything i like. subjective must
avoids include:

b-12 - electro soma
prodigy music for jilted generation
chemical brothers leave home
808 state excel
Speedy J - Public Energy #1
Arovane- Tides (i realize lots of people love this one, to
me it's mostly boring and slightly irritating)
Bogdan Raczynski - Samurai Math Beats (only a couple of very
good tracks)

labsweat, i might check out the samples of spacetime
continuum. the stuff i've heard (a couple of compilation
tracks, remit recaps [mostly not his work tho] and the track
he did with plaid i did not like, so i've tended to avoid)

offline Labium Sweat from United States on 2004-01-15 21:23 [#01035419]

He did a track with Plaid?? Are you sure?

Anyway here is what I have heard from Spacetime Continuum:
Alien Dreamtime (with Terence McKenna)
Sea Biscuit
Emit Ecaps
Remit Recaps
Double Fine Zone

note that Remit Recaps is other people remixes of Emit Ecaps
tracks, most of which aren't nearly as good.

I've also heard the Perfect Drug remix he did which was
okay, but not too great.

If you do decide to check out Emit Ecaps and Double Fine
Zone make sure to listen to them entirely before judging
them.

I can't suggest anything better than those two albums to
showcase his work.
If you have to buy one, go with Double Fine Zone, it doesn't
sound anything like Plaid (much better than Plaid in my
opinion) and it has more of an concept album sound.

Spacetime Continuum is good stuff...his songs 'Pressure',
'Simm City', and 'Vertigo' are top-notch.

Btw, have you heard his "FLURESCENCE EP" from the early
90's? You can check it out here. It is excellent
to say the least...just read the comments.

Well, the record looks interesting, they need to bring that

Did you hear that Jonah actually made a new ablum like a
