Well spotted. And you can listen to Squarewindow in it's
entirety too...

Ahh, that's quite cool, you can listen to any part of the
offered tracks, only in 30s snippets to stop you copying.

thing

how gutted would you be to see all your work on soulseek for

If I, as a big artist, limited a lot of my releases, I'd
better shut up. I will buy the HABs, GAK and so on, if they
are re-released.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-01-14 06:11 [#01032638]

it's not that great actually, but sooner or later the mp3's
you just bought are going to be available in same quality.

if it would be half of that price i'd be buying stuff as
well, but this is just too expensive imo.

fair enough on things like that (which are now available on

offline fleetmouse from Horny for Truth on 2004-01-14 06:24 [#01032645]
Points: 18042 Status: Lurker

Bah. For a little more money I can get a real CD with better
sound and all the artwork and shit.

Their price needs to be slashed by 50%, with a price cap cap
of $5.00 an album, then I'd buy. Could they not still make a
profit at that price?

Or how about a subscription plan - with EMusic currently
they're offering 90 downloads a month for 20 bucks. They
also serve up uncrippled Lame VBR MP3s.

offline fleetmouse from Horny for Truth on 2004-01-14 06:36 [#01032658]
Points: 18042 Status: Lurker

Wait, I spoke too soon. Some of the EPs and rarities are
only a couple of bucks. That's very decent.

And considering they're one of the few places offering Lame
VBR downloads, they're worth supporting. But I still think
the price for full albums needs to come down some... $5 is
maybe too good to be true, how about 6 or 7 bucks?

offline Chris Ochre on 2004-01-14 06:47 [#01032675]
Points: 570 Status: Lurker

Yeah, this service is great for picking up out of print
releases at 256-320kbps VBR or the odd album track. Doesn't
make sense to get a whole album if it's readily available on
CD.

offline Chris Ochre on 2004-01-14 06:48 [#01032676]

Nice concept. Very good that they have skipped any digital
rights management bullshit.

Also, the preview function is fantastic. I guess if you're a
really cheap bastard, you could fire up soundforge, recorde
each snippet and paste it together afterwards. Your time
wouldn't be worth much then though.

Because there was never a CD release of the HAB....
