My brother has convinced my family to join forces and get
me a Zoom mrs-4 multitrack recorder for my birthday! My
birthday was last week but I'm still awaiting my gift and
I'll get it this week. Does anyone here have any experience
with this little thingy? It looks great!

well, I dont mind doing that cause my new laptop that I'll
have in a few months has 80gigs of harddrive and I can
download free software for my zoom multitracker and hook it
up to the laptop stress-free....

This is what the presentation at the website www.zoom.co.jp
says:

Once you download the free "MRS-4 Card Manager" software
from our Web site www.zoom.co.jp , audio data for each track
can be converted to/from WAV or AIFF files and can be used
with your desktop DAW software. If you back up the data or
set up a library on your computer, the running cost is
basically zero. For data transmission, a Smart Media
reader/writer with USB interface is a low cost, convenient
option... Sounds great doesn't it!

mm i have no experience on that machine, but i've tried some
ZOOM effect pedals for guitar. they were absolutely horrible
horrible...

but this doesn't look nearly as cheap as those, so i don't
know if you should worry..

how much data/sound can you fit on a memory card like that?
will it be compressed?
