i think.
or at least they should, cause they did if they gave him a proper chance.
beethoven strikes me in a similar way than afx does, sometimes. you can trace melodies through his work, the whole complexity thing and emotionality that can be said about the league of major idm artists, it's all there, in different terms maybe, but the quality is the same.

ah... i may be buying my first classical cd on 2morrow, the only thing I hate about classical music is all the different cd's with the same tracks on it. How the hell are you meant to know which one is the best to buy?

Anyway, any reccomendations of what to get first? I like dark classical, the sort of music that makes hairs stand on end.

why shouldt we like classical? oh yea, its not cool to listen to classical. phhhh.
we all enjoy idm or braindance for the same reason,,,,it challenges our idea of music. opening up to new possibilites broadens your view....and i am notsaying we are more intelligent because of idm, we are intelligent, thus we listen to idm.....you see, we laid the egg, and we watched it hatch too.....now i must go back to my padded cell, ive lost the plot.

well I ended up getting these:
Tchaikovsky: Swan Lake/Sleeping Beauty/The Nutcracker
Stravinsky: The Firebird/The Rite Of Spring
Beethoven: Symphony No. 9/Fidelio Overture
Beethoven: Piano Sonatas No. 14, 23, 24, 26
Mozart: Requiem/Exsultate, jubilate
Good choices?

not as old.. but gorecki's symphony no. 3 (symphony for sorrowful songs) is good.
a hauntingly beautiful piece which swells & grows over its 3 movements.
not exactly catchy - but i love the way it evolves. themes & vocal parts shift in & out without you even realising

I think that is becasue most IDM folks are very open minded, and know that some music can grow if you give it a proper listen, even if you don't like it the first time (well atleast I do).
If someone would have played a song of Beethoven for me before I listened to IDM I think I would not like it al all!

The lame thing about classical music is that we can't actually hear the original person performing it.

its not classical - but its interesting to listen to:
ravi shankar plays ragas - traditional indian themes which are re-improvised every time theyre played. played to usher in the new day. very mellow sounding.. nice non-european time signatures.
the cd i have is a sort of traditional indian ambient music.. if you see what i mean.
