tomorrow she is coming over. and i am thinking i put on
some music to show her how much better idm and stuff is. she
thinks anything electronic is all the same and weird beeps
and stuff. but, i am finding it hard to decide what i could
play her. all i've got so far is :

manitoba - up in flames.
i was also thinking some four tet or something; any
suggestions?

yeah, play her Rounds... that's a nice album...

doesn't sound too electronic though...

prprprprprprefuuzze!

i hate to say this, but i'd wager that no matter what you
play she'll probably not like it... people make up their
minds before they hear electronic music, all too often

if she's into country you could play "Wide Open Spaces" by
Matmos/People Like Us/Wobbly

There is good and bad country music, just like with any
other music style.

I don't know, I find that hard to believe about country...
especially the stuff my parents listen to...

seriously though, some old country is ok... the newer stuff
is just disgusting...

just play her your favorite songs... make a compilation cd
of your favorites, and see what she thinks... if you choose
a bunch of different artists, she's bound to like
something...

offline thethirdball from Polly Pisspot (Canada) on 2004-01-09 18:47 [#01025894]

I think you should just let her listen to country which has
the potential to be (Johnny Cash) better than most IDM
anyway.

it might be interesting if you'd ask also her to bring her
favourite music, and you'd listen to it & would try to be
open-minded for it.

offline AlfredPMcLovely from the country that will end up d (Turkmenistan) on 2004-01-09 18:52 [#01025908]

yes, pretend to be open-minded about it, and then hammer her
over the head with autechre and snares and if she doesn't
like it point out how you listened to her shitty country
(while secretly wearing headphones) and how awesome it is to
be open minded

quotibg DeadEight: "people make up their

same goes the other way around too.

If it bothers you that much that she loves country music and
thinks all electronic music is the same (it would bother the
hell out of me), then just tell her she is inferior and that
you want her to leave as fast as possible.

country is so fucking horrible i can't believe it. the lady
who has the shift before me always has the country station
on the radio. jesus. it is so bad it hurts me.

Like any music there's good country and bad. After having
borrowed four country-tinged Gillian Welch albums off a
friend I'm fair impressed, and I'm partial to the odd
Handsome Family track now and again. Equally at home with
'em as with Autechre and yon Snares.
Instead of pretending to be open minded, actually be
open minded.

will definitely play her:

four tet - rounds
and
manitoba - up in flames

:) btw i just rolled 3 primo joints for the weekend :)

electronic music, not that pop-music crap that the masses
love."

if you're going to play her matmos you must get "Wide Open
Spaces".
there's more country on this album than electronica,
seriously.

oh, yeah. joints...joints are great!
