Hi am an Australian that's going to a music festival here
in Oz which Aphex will be playing at and I wanted to get an
idea of his sound.I know I could go download some of his
music but I'm unable to do that for the time being.
I'm into Progressive/Psy/Goa Trance and I know this isn't
his sound. I've heard it's more electronic house type stuff
or is it a more Prodigy,Paul Oakenfold,Club,House tye
music.
Any info would be appreciated!

I know it might sound like a dickish thing for him to say
(and the way we have responded generally), but Aphex Twin's
sound is so far removed from the artists you listed that it
would be hard to compare to any of the artists you're likely
to of heard of... I suppose the best example would be some
of it it sounds a bit like kid a and amnesiac from
radiohead.

Really, your best bet would be to stream some of his music,
if you're not allowed to do that, there's not a lot we can
do to help- the terms we use would probably be meaningless
to you... "drill and bass" ring any bells?

aphex is like:

going to a classic music concert and the sound the orchestra
would do if the second floor fell on them, just surviving
some percusionist and some violins still playing while
people screamed while they die

Yes I've just heard a few samples and wont be wasting my 2
hours on him. He's just not my sound! I think I'll stick to
my Trance thank you very much!

anyway, you most likely (certanly) won't get to hear much of
his stuff, as he is usually playing a bit more dancefloor
oriented stuff...drum n bass, gabber, electro, jungle,...
you might get lucky and he'll play noise or something :)
but if you can handle not so straight rhythm im sure he's
going to exaust you.

That's aphex for me. Well, maybe that's going too far, but

Good question bogala!
I suppose it's because we dont get much european
electronic(what ever you want to call it) i guess or
american for that matter.
In Oz here we have these dance parties called doofs, you'd
more than likely have something similar in the states but
they're out in the middle of no where in the bush,no cops
and we can play what ever we want.I'd say it's cause we love
a good dance and a heavy beat and Trance gives us that and
people only go to them intent on gettin of their faces on
acid, xtc, meth, u name it and having a good time listening to
some good heavy psy/goa trance. Where I live, Nimbin
,australias answer to amsterdam some of you will know this
place, trance is all u hear because it's so mind altering
and us aussies love that, going out gettin off our faces and
dancing the night away in the eraly hours of the
morning, watching the sun rise! Also being so isolated from
the rest of the world there isn't a great deal of talent
that comes out to australia except when we have music
festivals and big acts like Simon Posford and Infected
Mushroom just to name a few come here and show us their
great trance making abilities!
Hope that's answered your question.

aphex is mind altering... listening to his sounds while on
mind altering substances is fantastic...

i fear that a potential convert has been scared away by some
silly replies... certainly they were taken into
consideration when he listened to grainy one minute
samples...

lots of other parties, i'm part of some, theres some big
names new years outdoor doof saw some fckd up noisecore,
breakcore, drum n bass n more crazy stuff as well as the
usual trance gabba gabba hey hey.
There are quite a lot of electro artists and dj's here, we
have so much more.
its there man, most people just don't look for it so they
don't know.
