I hate reality Tv too. all forms of it. like anyone cares
anymore if joe shmo can eat 50 fried goat genitals or if
sally can accept larry when she finds out he isn't really
the president of luxemburg.
apparently some people must, which is the saddest thing of
all. this isn't just mindless entertainment anymore, it's
harmfully vapid in my opinion. so devoid of any redeeming
qualities that the thought of a new one almost makes my
stomach turn.

I know i do.
I can't figure out for the life of me why it pisses me off
so much. not very many things in life infuriate me as much
as reality TV.
I mean, I haven't hated anything this much, umm, Jewel sold
out.

=)

It started with a family in the seventies in America. The
son was gay. They were on the cover of time. The real world
mtv is the first reality show, I remember, though.

I've heard roumors of a new celeb reality tv show, where
they stick a bunch of people in a Big Bro kinda house and
make them learn welsh

someone from hearsay is meant to be doing it if it ever
takes off

doubt it will though

I love reality tv. I agree that it's "fucking stupid," but
it entertains me to no end. The Real World, Survivor,
Ripley's Believe It Or Not, a PLETHORA of dating shows like
Blind Date, Elimidate, Fifth Wheel- I just love this dumb
shit. It's great.

the topic title is beyond blatantly obvious.

this state deserves a new word: overbenk.

this topic's title is clearly overbenk.

EVERYTHING on TV is contrived; manufactured by mega
corporations with the intention of selling more burgers and
cola.

reality TV just happens to sell the most burgers and cola
these days.

REFLEX,

it is blatantly obvious that you fail to see any corrolation
or patterns in modern activity and sociology.

You _do_ realize that the reason people watch these shows is
because they can relate.

Hell, the real reason people like tv shows or things of that
nature is for character development (branch predictions) and
relating to those character(s).

go figure ?!!?

i'm sure he realizes that... obviously people can relate...
because they're being plucked from behind their tv screens
and become the action on tv... it was an interesting
sociological study at first, back when the idea was
relatively novel, but now everyone's assimilated the
normative standards of behaviour on reality TV, and it no
longer represents any semblance or the life that occurs
outside of it.... but yes, TV in general is terrible these
days, i can't watch it for any length of time without
wanting to leave the room and puke... television, to me is a
perfect illustration of how close we are to being the
dystopian worlds that sci-fi people have been writing
stories and movies about for years...

elusive: you know mostly what im talking about are the
marriage ones, the joe millionader, the dating ones, I mean
this is all pretty trivial, its just absurd that THIS
constitues good entertainment, I mean holy fuck Ive heard
the tv be called the idiot box before and this just makes it
so.

describe good 'entertainment' that the 'popular crowd' i.e.,
majority would watch?

surely reality will phase out, just give it time and try to
ignore it :)
