I think bedroom electronic artists are the new fashion
designers of the world. 90% of it is crap although people
are often too scared to say so.

More and more as I read peoples spam threads their concept /
production values / aim and ideas for the track change
depending on positive feedback. Negativity is greeted with
a sort of "you just don't get it" or "it's not your sort of
thing" brush off :P

Just another aspect of board life that keeps me amused.

i think when people are 'too scared to say so' they are
really just viewing the music as how it was made, by an
amateur. (in most cases)

the changing of things in tracks based on what others say
seems kind of odd to me though

You would say that, but you only say that because you used
to be my gay lover and never did get my style because it
wasn't your sort of thing.

I agree to an extent...

but I also think alot of people get overlooked/are
underrated. I think some people post some great shit, and
if it wasn't for that fact that people knew it was made by
an amatuer (because the person themself posted it) that
perhaps people would be a little less critical.

I feel like alot of times, I see people pulling commentary
(seemingly) out of thier ass, cause everyone wants to sound
like they know whats up.

But then on the other hand, its sometimes the truth.

I don't know...

whatever.

Make music, not donkey nets.

I, a while ago posted complete bullshit in response to a
thread. The comments where totally the opposite to the
track that was made and someone replied saying they agreed
with most of what I said...

I always try to give credit where I feel it is due. But i
have to admit sometimes reading the responses of the spammer
before listening to the track can wind me up the wrong way
possibly leading to a slightly more harsh (ie. less than
constructive criticism) response than I would have otherwise
given.

I always give my honest opinion. I do try to be as detailed
as I can be - I try to say which elements I like and which
elements I don't like.

when someone gives me criticism, I try to see that persons
point of view and if I can take something from that.
but some comments are solely based on taste - then there's
not that much you can do.

it can be hard if it's another Rephlex-clone - those seem
pretty abundant and for those to work you have to have a
pretty strong grasp of melodies, and most people just don't
have that.

I've said this before, but I find that most people focus on
track structure much too early, while they should spend more
time on sounddesign initially.

yeah, seems pretty stupid for people to change their stuff
just because someone suggests something... make the music
you want to make, not what others tell you to make...

I usually: judge whether the person is a better musician
than I then, if so, give unconditional negative feedback
due to an inferiority complex. I must say, reading the
initial post a random letter at a time is equally as
informative.

One of the funniest things I've seen is where people state
(not ask) what program someone has done something in...
"You've obviously just got a copy of fruityloops, I'd
recognise that sound anywhere." Newsflash: Not everyone here
uses just floops and not everyone who does use it
uses the default samples!

Another great example I've seen is people praising or
criticising the chords of a piece when there are just single
notes of melody.

Hahah, yeah. I remember once someone told me I should try
using something besides absynth presets.

this was before I even OWNED absynth.

and yeah, ive seen that too, about the chords etc.

*shakes head*

ah well :)
