Seefeel

Just been listening to some old Seefeel. You know the
original stuff from the 'quique' era, fuck they were a good
band. A seriously deep motherfucker of a band. Brings a teer
to your eye that they ended.

hard to believe it's been about ten years since the first
records were released. they still sound fresh.

have you heard mark clifford's cocteau twins remix ep,
called "otherness"? it was released under the cocteau twins
name, but all four tracks are mixed a la seefeel. it makes
a very nice addition to the seefeel canon.

Seefeel is one of my favourites. Great stuff. Polyfusia and
Quique are amazing.

quique is good eh? i bought that album almost two years ago
and i dont think i have listened to it once. hmm.

intruder, it seems that you've overlooked the obvious point
to buying cd's.

:)

no, i remember that day. i bought so much stuff that day i
still have the plone album to listen to as well. i think
i'll pop it in today when i get home. i liked succour
though. is that what its like?

the only seefeel that i own is (ch-vox).

i think that is good. anyone heard that one?

quique is different from succour, mostly. quique: more
hypnotic repetition, longer tracks, softer and smoother
sounds, less grainy, not as dark as succour. the dub
influences and cowbell crop up on both albums.

offline promo from United Kingdom on 2004-01-07 12:47 [#01022068]

Yeah exactly, 'quique' and 'Succour' are very different
records. I remember getting 'quique' back in like '94 and
being very impressed. Actually not quite what I'd expected
based on the one track I'd heard which came on a tape with
Select magazine or was the NME.

offline plaidzebra from so long, xlt on 2004-01-07 12:51 [#01022075]

to generalize, ch-vox is in the vein of succour, but leans
toward the ambient. the earlier seefeel records (in which
i'd include polyfusia (the first two ep's), quique and
starethrough) are like pop/dub songs buried in filters and
smooth, hypnotic repetition, while the later sound of
fracture, succour and ch-vox is more gritty, dark, rough
(ambient industrial?).

offline plaidzebra from so long, xlt on 2004-01-07 12:57 [#01022083]
Points: 5678 Status: Lurker

to me, ch-vox would be the least essential seefeel
recording. if you bought only one, i'd probably say get
starethrough.

about 8 years ago in seattle.

the all played together for a handful of songs.

it was fucking beautiful

Hearing their older shit there is a depth there akin to BOC.
Not quite BOC but kinda close.

Totally agree on Seefeel never getting the respect they
deserved....Not many people manage to merge the worlds of
IDM & guitars without deminishing either...

And Rich is obviously a fan; always easy to tell as any
tweaks are pretty minor...

Yeah maybe I just got bored of a lot of artists but Seefeel
are definitely underrated and not spoke about much which is
very very odd seeing as they were serious, I mean serious
originators in their time.

Succour is fine, its like SAWII. Succour and SAWII are kinda
of so similar its spooky. Two unique records but a very
similar style.

I just love their shit because I literally grew up with them
as they were happening and basically I got into them exactly
the same time near as damn to the day as Aphex Twin.

I can remember going to Camden in London and my sister
buying SAWII and me buying 'Quique' (literally my first
electronic ambient record) and well the rest is history.
Beautifal times man, oh I'm gonna cry.

Seefeel is my favourite band ever (well, so far). I like
nearly every of their tracks, especially early stuff like
Quique and Polyfusia. Their sound is so unique and
beautiful, does great things with your mind when listening
to it on headphones. I highly recommend everyone to check
out at least two mentioned albums. In fact I like them so
much that I would consider having played the last track on
their last release CH-VOX ("Net") on my funeral/cremation. I
wish they'd reunite :(

I heard Seefeel for the first time when I was coming down
from E for the first time. Sounded like Angels Breathing.

I find Sigur Rios to be very derivative of seefeel.

check them all out.

I think Succour is the only one you can actually buy these
days though.

i found polyfusia used for $8 at relapse records in philly
last night (metal label/store)

this is the 2nd rare seefeel release i've found there. i got
fracture/tied there about 6 months ago.

polyfusia goes for about $100 on gemm and $70 on ebay

i guess they don't check all the used cds they get in

not that i'm going to sell it
