absolutely incredible IMO.

it will be amazing to see color photos of the horizon,
especially from a different world.

no shit.

i'm really stoked about this whole lander thing.

NOVA ran a special on it last night. it was
great. i highly recommend that all you guys check it out
tommorrow when they re-air it. 'cept this time with the new
high-res photographs that spirit will be beaming back
soon.

these first photographs are only preliminary ones they're using to
calibrate shit and check up on the lil' bastard.

the viking mars lander took pictures from the surface of mars
back in the 70's. but it didn't move around. and it was
pretty limited in the information it collected.

am i the only person unimpressed? its just some crappy
pictures of rocks. it would be exciting if the probes were
able to build little towns on mars with little aqueducts and
a town sundial, but spending billions of $$s just for some
pics doesnt seem worth it to me.

they are after water or former signs of life... er.. more
signs of former life, because they already found some
fossils of dead micro-0rganisms.

it is a cool picture though, Its very neat to be able to see
on another planet, from this perspective! color should be
great.

if they want water...turn on a tap! we will have plenty of
time to search for dryed up canals and dig up fossils once
we have build settlements on mars, there are obviously no
scary martians there today.
