IE6 busted..hello Mozilla hell.

So, something strange is going on with my IE6. It crashes
everytime I use google, with results opening in a new window
and also with any pop-up I open.

This started after some porn site added a bunch of icons on
my desktop. I also had 3 exe-files on my C:. They were
called gfnyyfbl.exe or something random like that.
Occasionally they'd try to get contact, but my firewall
blocked them. I deleted a whole bunch of stuff and now IE6
is acting strange.

I really love IE. I know the buttons and crap by heart, so
it's been hell using Mozilla 1.5 for the past few days. God
fucking damn it annoys me.

1. The download progress bar. Either you turn it on and it's
on for everything. Including small images!! This is the
reason I stopped using good ol' Netscape in the first place.
The progress bar would come up and wait forever to get the
fucking image to my drive. FUCK!

2. Cache. I can't fucking believe how retarded Mozilla is
with cache usage. With IE6, if I need to download the same
file twice, it just sucks it up from the cache. You know how
IE then copies it to disk when the download is complete.
Mozilla? Hell no. What do you think this is? A serious
browser? Download again.

3. The download speeds occasionally drop to modem speeds.
Heh, especially when getting updates from Microsoft. My
download speed record is on a Swedish MS server @ 670kB/sec.
This Mozilla bitch could barely get the IE service pack.

4. There are so many small things. Like this blinking stick
thing when I type here. It does a great job of covering up
the last letter I type, not to mention it goes invisible if
I press space. Hello?

Can I install just IE6 from my windows CD? Maybe it gets
repaired. Yeah right.

I've been running Adaware. It's not that.

I hate IE.
Use Netscape or Opera or something if you don't like
Mozilla.
Does IE even support tab-browsing yet?

You could try Firebird, based on Mozilla - a very good
browser. I've ditched IE cos I'm sick of popups and
Firebird lets you control these.

Yea, IE isn't really worth bothering to fix. Try Opera.

Pop-ups have never been a problem. Free pop up stopper works
great. Well, not with Mozilla of course. It blocks any
progress bars Mozilla tries to bring up. Not so with IE6.

IE is worth fixing. Just for the cache reason alone.

you can't really deinstall IE, can you?

in XP, I mean..?

I believe you can only uncheck the IE box or something.

can't you download IE 6 from some Microsoft site though?

All browsers have a cache just the same as IE, the settings
must be wrong somewhere.

sounds as your mozilla is somewhat ill configured.

i've been using mozilla for two years now, i'm more than
pleased.

uninstalling IE is not a good idea though..
it's on any windows installation disk i think.
be sure to get the updates asap as it's the piece of
software which is under the heaviest hacking attacks. i do
not use it for that reason

All the things you're complaining about sound like there's
something wrong with your computer, not with Mozilla....

...with the exception of downloading. Yes, IE downloads to
the cache then copies the file wherever you wanted to save
it. This is a bug not a feature for two reasons - one, I
want the goddamn file to go where I said, not to make an
extra copy on the C: drive, and two, this leads to problems
with lots of sites where you can't download an updated
version of some file - hence, tech support is always telling
people to clear their IE cache.

If you keep downloading the same file and deleting it, you
need to get an encrypted partition to hide your pr0n instead
cos what you're doing doesn't make sense.

IE6 is the equivelant of listening to medium wave. its
completely your own doing. he who lives by the sword, dies
by the sword. you make your bed, you lie in it. err, etc.

I don't keep downloading the same file over and over again.
Two movie files disappeared after downloading, because
Mozilla reported I can't "change the folder" or something. I
was like WHAT? What the hell is this? It never happens with
IE6. Had this happened with IE, I would have already had the
file on disk. You click the same download place and it just
copies it over.

I ditched IE a while ago in favour of opera. Gave firebird a
roadtest and I'm liking. It's a lot quicker. IE licks balls.

The icons were Swedish. There was a html file on my drive
called I.html. It said if I click the icons, I'd have to pay
a 399:- SEK membership fee. It was so tempting, but then I
decided to delete them all.

what moziall are you using? mine (1.5) supports resuming and
has not failed to download once.

i think you're blaming the wrong thing here, that just does
not sound like problems that mozilla uses to make, those are
different

Bfast tracking cookie. I always find a load of cookies with
Adaware too.

Two registry settings for Windows media player. I'm not sure
I should've removed them. I suppose I will notice incase
something is wrong.

yeah. you've definately got something going on with your
computer. either a virus, a trojan, or you've deleted some
sort of critical file or something.

i don't fully understand the problem you're describing with
mozilla & it's caching. but, it definately sounds like
something else is going on. methinks you'd have a problem
with any browser you choose right now because the problem is
fundamentally with your operating system.

that being said, mozilla/firebird are two teriffic browsers.
they made the int0rweb fun again. IE feels like i'm
surfing the web on a 66Mhz machine with oversized gloves
on.

get some AV software, if that doesn't work, back up critical
data files & reinstall. make sure you run the AV stuff
again 1st thing after the reinstall too.

do this:

1 - restart your machine
2 - keep pressing F8 until you get the option screen
3 - choose command prompt only to get into true DOS mode

then type this to get rid of all temprary crap

c:\windows\smartdrv (loads smartdrive to speed things up)
cd\
deltree/y temp
cd windows
deltree/y cookies
deltree/y temp
deltree/y history
deltree/y tempor~1 (this one may take a while)

then just restart and your machine should be clean of all
temporary files

if you're using winME you need to crate a boot disk to get
into DOS. plus winME is the worst O/S ever so consider doing
a complete clean install.
