So... I am kind of passively studying the creative process right now... and I was wondering if you guys care to answer a few questions for me...
Here they are:
What do you do (creatively)? How long have you been doing it? Why do you do it (what inspires you)? Do you do it for a specific audience (anything from a single person to a group of people)?
Where do you see yourself going creatively/ what would you like to see yourself doing?
Thnx :)

What do you do (creatively)? play around with web design
How long have you been doing it? off and on for four or five years, but only alot for 2.5 years
Why do you do it (what inspires you)? i guess it's alot like why i used to enjoy playing with legos & tinker toys when i was young.
Do you do it for a specific audience (anything from a single person to a group of people)?
nah, the stuff i do for fun is really only for me and learning. not many people see the shit i fuck around with, nor would they care to i guess. it's usually not too entertaining unless you're me.
Where do you see yourself going creatively/ what would you like to see yourself doing?
eventually, i'd like to be able to support myself as my own boss. either through doing freelance web design, or as a part of a small web design team. but, i enjoy my job right now, and usally i do the same thing with my spare time as i do when i'm on the clock earning money for the man.

What do you do (creatively)? mainly make music, occassionaly draw.
How long have you been doing it? can't remember
Why do you do it (what inspires you)? I like to express certain feelings and moods. Sometimes I like to re-create visuals using only sounds. So many different things inspire me.
Do you do it for a specific audience (anything from a single
person to a group of people)? mostly for myself, but I try to make sure that there is some medium for communicating with others. Music is just another language so I try to make sure someone gets the message i'm sending them.
Where do you see yourself going creatively/ what would you
like to see yourself doing? I would like to actually take a picture or painting, and try to duplicate it exactly using only sound. To the point where you could play a song for someone and they would describe what they are hearing, then have that description match the picture i tried to recreate.

What do you do (creatively)? Electronic Music, CGI art How long have you been doing it? Music about 7/8 years, only solidy for about 2 years though. CGI art, about 7 years, only more seriously the past year or so.
Why do you do it (what inspires you)? I enjoy the process... I also like enjoying the final result, quite aside from the fact I made it. Sometimes I make it to deal with feelings, a synth is a lot more eloquent than the written word or a conversation, to yourself at least.
Do you do it for a specific audience (anything from a single
person to a group of people)? I do share some of what I consider my better work and tracks that I think people will enjoy. There are a few people who get to hear a lot of stuff I do that I don't put on the net.
Where do you see yourself going creatively/ what would you
like to see yourself doing? Making electronic music I like indefinately and continuing to improve each year.

What do you do (creatively)? Paint, photography, photoshop. Very occasional noise music, less occasional mixes for friends.
How long have you been doing it? Music about 9months on and off, art for about 4 years seriously.
Why do you do it (what inspires you)? I can't imagine doing anything else. I feel like being creative is my purpose here on earth. What inspires me at the moment? Police mugshot photos, memories of bad things i've done, politics, mona hatoum. Plus the usual chance visual things we see everyday and never pick up on.
Do you do it for a specific audience (anything from a single person to a group of people)? I do it for myself but if people like it and buy something, well, that keeps me in vinyl and canvas.
Where do you see yourself going creatively/ what would you like to see yourself doing? I guess the immediate goal is to get into a decent art college (probably in london), but ultimately i want to make my living from doing the thing i love. It's a fucking rat race though. *crosses fingers and hopes*

What do you do (creatively)?:: I make music on my computer alone, create electronic death metal with real guitars and vocals with a friend, and I sing in a band as well, so I write lyrics and sing/preform.
How long have you been doing it?: Ive been doing the stuff on my own for 3 years now, and ive been doing the stuff with my friend for only about 5 months, and the singer stuff is new to me, but ive been in many bands before playing the bass and other stuff.
Why do you do it (what inspires you)?: I do it becuase I love to create something, to make it my own, never does ONE thing inspire me the most, I get inspiration from my own dark feelings, my hate for the wrong things in this world and I use these negative things for a very positive thing, making my tunes. Lyrics is almost the same, because I have to put a lot of emotion into them.
Do you do it for a specific audience (anything from a single person to a group of people)?: I have played shows with upwards of 300+ people at them, which is how I get off, I live for the feeling of being up there on stage, I wouldnt trade it for the fuckin world!! Ive also jammed with only a few people around, and ive made stuff thats pretty much just for me.
Where do you see yourself going creatively/ what would you like to see yourself doing?: Well... with the singer/band thing id love to see us get picked up by a label, so we can get stuff out there for distrobution and whatnot, we have some shirts we are gonna make and some patches/stickers and shit, mainly my goal is to keep playing shows in and out of town and get a record deal, no matter how big or small it may be. For now these are my goals, they may change once I reach them, but I wont stop.

What do you do (creatively)? I make electronic music on my PC and my hardware, i also write poetry when the mood takes me.
How long have you been doing it? Music making: 2 years, poetry writing : 3 years
Why do you do it (what inspires you)? I do it to express feelings that i find difficult to express, also to remind me of ways that i have felt in the past, their like landmarks of parts of my life. I get inspiration from my friends, and from my surroundings and especially my life.
Do you do it for a specific audience (anything from a single
person to a group of people)? I used to write poetry just for my first girlfriend, but then i started writing it for myself, and the same with music. Some pieces are dedicated to friends, some pieces are dedicated to experiences, some i just do for the hell of it.
Where do you see yourself going creatively/ what would you like to see yourself doing? I want to evolve from play about software like Fruity Loops to stuff like Reason, i feel it would be better suited to the direction i want to go in. I wish for my music to get more complex (i.e more to it) Poetry-wose i dont know where thats going, just let it flow.

What do you do (creatively)?
answ: well, alot of vectorbased graphics with photoshop patterns; very abstract art with alot of gothic/synth/darkside themes. I'm trying to make music, but it's not easy!
How long have you been doing it?
answ: photoshop, 7 years knowledge. 3dsmax, 2 years knowledge, flash 3 years knowledge. maby a few months here and there incorrect - but hey, I'm not keeping the counting :)
Why do you do it (what inspires you)?
answ: I'm inspiring myself, but also music - first of all Sigur Ros; I see alot of naturephenomens compared with IR-camera abstractionism. that's my style, I think. also minimalism such as you do when you paint deepdown in a pixellevel.
Do you do it for a specific audience (anything from a single
person to a group of people)?
answ: not really. for myself, and for the one who wants to see it. since my computer is too slow (256rambus, too expensive for an upgrade), I really can't make hardcopy prints. it's quite hard to paint a A3 picture with 300dpi when your computer buffers 2gb on your harddrive. it spins alot, I tell you :)
Where do you see yourself going creatively/ what would you like to see yourself doing?
answ: I see myself going to a motion director title in a few years. I'll study more 3D and get myself a DV cam in a few years; a professional one, I guess. else, I suppose I'll be located in some basement somewhere coding HTML.

What do you do (creatively)? I compose electronic music on me computer
How long have you been doing it? I've been doing it on and off for probably about 6 or 7 years now, although only recently have I really gotten good at it and found any real purpose to it.
Why do you do it (what inspires you)? I write when I think of some concept/sound that I want to convey and remember
Do you do it for a specific audience (anything from a single
person to a group of people)? I only make music solely for myself, although I do like it when other people enjoy it too
Where do you see yourself going creatively/ what would you
like to see yourself doing? Hopefully in college (next year) I will be minoring in electronic music or music technology. After that, I'm not sure what I can/will do. My ideal position would be either a full time muscial artist or doing movie soundtracks.

What do you do (creatively)?
I write (plays, screenplays, poetry) and I make music (electronic).
How long have you been doing it?
Seriously writing - about 6 years. Music - about 2 years.
Why do you do it (what inspires you)?
Gosh. Very hard question. First and foremost, because they are fun to do. Secondly because they allow me to investigate something I find interesting - all "creation of art" is an experiment, really.
inspiration can come from all kinds of places.
Do you do it for a specific audience (anything from a single
person to a group of people)?
In first place, simply for me. if I like it, it's okay. I am slowly getting paid writingwork, and then ofcourse I do keep the intended audience in mind, as well as myself.
Musically it's all pure for my enjoyment.
Where do you see yourself going creatively/ what would you
like to see yourself doing?
I would like to be able to live off of my writing - as in: it's my job. and I think it lies within possibilities.
musically - I don't know. maybe I would like to bring out a record at some time - we'll see if I ever get the chance and if I then want to. :)
maybeee I would also like to see if I can do something myself in filming, as in directing. I don't know..

What do you do (creatively)? Music, some art How long have you been doing it? Music for about 5 years and art since I could hold a pencil
Why do you do it (what inspires you)? I have deep love for the both of them, I believe in their connection with the soul and all that.
Do you do it for a specific audience (anything from a single person to a group of people)?
Usually for myself, I like to share occasionally though Where do you see yourself going creatively/ what would you like to see yourself doing?
I'd like to see myself doing both music and art professionally, making a living out of it would be nice since it's the only thing I can enjoy doing.. and be arsed to do.

What do you do (creatively)?
Music & Photography.
How long have you been doing it?
Music for 5 years, Photography for 1 year.
Why do you do it (what inspires you)?
I enjoy music and photography very much, trying to create my own vision comes naturally. If I feel I can create something new, to give an interesting perspective then i'll do it. Inspiration is everywhere.
Do you do it for a specific audience (anything from a single
person to a group of people)?
For no one specifically, i like to hear people's opinion but i won't scrap a piece if they don't like it. If i like a piece then i'll keep it.
Where do you see yourself going creatively/ what would you like to see yourself doing?
I'm applying to music college, hopefully i'll end up doing something. Writing books is something I'd like to do on music. Composing and performing are obviously a top choice, who knows?

I've sort of been haunted by the meaning of art lately. One odd source that helped cause this is the unabomber manifesto which introduced the concept of surrogate activity to me. Another is the evolving science of memetics, which questions whether there is even a "me" creating anything. Another is the realization that any art created will simply eventually perish, not only through natural weathering but erased from the memory of humanity. These things are disturbing to me since I've generally tended to withdraw from reality to dedicate myself to a fantasy world of surrogate activity art. And now I'm questioning the purpose/meaning of existing.

Some really good responses... Thank everyone who took the time to give me a few good paragraphs on this subject.
I donno. The creative process is fascinating... and right now I am kind of using this passive manner of observation and documentation as my main creative outlet. Music, writing and drawing are secondary to this for me. I also teach people software production, as a means for me to observe the way they learn, and eventually turn a seemingly intelectual act into a more creative one.

What do you do (creatively)? I make music, create CG art and graphics, draw, and write poetry.
How long have you been doing it? Music and CG Art about 3 years. I've been drawing ever since I was a kid. And I've been writing poetry for about 7 years.
Why do you do it (what inspires you)? Music and Art are my main passions in life, and they inspire me in all aspects of my life. I love and need to create, and need different ways to release my creativity to stay happy and sane.
Do you do it for a specific audience (anything from a single person to a group of people)? I create for myself first and foremost. But I also create alot of stuff for other people, because it gives me a set project to do, and the more stuff I have to create the better. I'm still benefitting from the creative process, and the knowing that something I created has made somebody happy, or helped them out in some way. And it's very rewarding when your work is praised and complemented on.
Where do you see yourself going creatively/ what would you like to see yourself doing?
I'll always be creating, and I know I can only benefit from it and keep improving the more I do it. I plan on pursuing a career in Graphic Design/Art.
