sorry? I dont know what that reference is to?

qrter: its a problem thats been going on for some time. The
longer there is inaction, the more fed up people get, and
call for more drastic results.

Im finished here, because like Pomme said, we should drop
it. Hes not here to defend himself.

I just don't think its fair to call everyone who asked for a
temp ban part of "mob mentality". Its kind of insulting you
know? Just because you disagree with a large # of people, it
doesnt mean they are all sheep, following the trend. I think
alot of people are geniunly fed up with monoid.

I'm not saying you or anyone is insincere in their wanting
something done about Monoid.

but firstly, there is a big difference between asking for a
ban or temp-ban - I don't see a lot of people asking for a
temp-ban here, and secondly, it is this kind of
petition-style thing.

saying you want someone banned is like screaming for someone
to get the deathpenalty (well, a bit, not completely the
same thing ofcourse :P, but you catch my drift)..

ban, in my eyes, kind of implies temp ban. No one gets a
full out ban right off...

so, misunderstanding of words there...

and secondly, yeah, a petition. Its what you do, when you
feel like an important issue is being overlooked. It shows
that "hey, we dont like whats going on here"

I guess we just have different perspectives on the matter...
but I think this was all justified.

I see where you are coming from, and I really wasn't calling
for a permanent ban, I just thought something ought to be
done about it. I'm sure Monoid will think things over in
his break he has from here in the next few days.

I thought about this for a while...

Look people, talking about rape in a serious/semi-serious
context is not cool. Of the very, VERY few things that I
won't make fun of or consider offensive, rape is one on the
top

I look at those posts and it makes me question whether or
not to stick around.

And I think about that and realize I have a really high
tolerance for those sorts of things. How many people have
just looked at those posts and said, eh, this isn't worth
it... how many good people do we lose? Maybe not many at
first, but you see them as many times as he's posted
recently and it adds up.

There's nothing for him to defend against in my opinion,
this board has a lot of good people in it and I think
everyone would like to see it keep getting better.

Monoid goes too far with his posts for me to take him
seriously... the way he talks about losing his virginity to
virgins, how much a loser he is, and how his online
girlfriend relationships are lame... come on, it's all a
joke...

I do agree he should've been temp banned, but I highly doubt
he's serious... come on, he can't be... at least I hope not!

offline Sanguine from San Francisco (United States) on 2004-01-02 23:06 [#01014970]

What does it matter if he's being serious or not? It's not
easy to tell, text isn't very forgiving in that respect.

If it is, I feel bad for him, honestly.

If it isn't, which is way more likely, then I just don't
want to see his posts here

ok i wanted to remain silent coz i made few stupid things
here but here's my voice in this matter :

personally i wasnt offended by this "rape" -i think that
rape is horrible, i would castrate every rapist on this
planet, but Monoid is seeking attention.
I think that he didnt wanted to ofend anyone here, probably
it was talking without thinking .
As we all are on internet it is normal that you can find
many controversial things here - Monoid wasnt the first one
who started to talk about these controversial things.
I can also understand that some of you feel offended by his
thread, and i think that term ban is only to show him that
these type of things are not welcome here.
Although you should take to consideration that maybe some of
the posts here might be serious and maybe Monoid has this
kind of problem in real life- and this cant be denied.
I dont know Monoid very well, many of you know him longer-
if this was stupid joke - he was warned. If this was true -
now he know that this board is not the place for this kind
of problems.

Basically I enjoy coming here to this board, and if there is
something I am not happy about I can voice an issue to a
moderator or a webmaster to let them know about the matter.
Emailing someone about it, and for them to say "Ok, thanks,
we'll keep an eye on them...." is just a softner. What I
did, is make a public complaint. What I wanted to do when I
created this topic was to see who also agreed with me.
Sanguine has a very good point, and I totally agree with
Gwely Mernans also. I even see where Qrter is coming from.
But the bottom line is, the more people that complain about
something, the more likely it is that something will be done
about it, as opposed to one person just 'whining' as some
here would put it.

Personally I have no quarms about doing this, and if those
of you out there thought what I did was inciting mob tactics
and think I'm a fool for doing so, then feel free to call it
what you want. I know my friends here, and for those of you
who still have a problem with me after all this time, then
you should also know by now, that that is of no concern of
mine either. I just took the plunge and said in public what
all those of you who sit on the fence, were afraid to.

What you must not lose sight of, is it wasnt me who created
all the those dumb topics and had them all closed. That
being said, I'm sure Monoid will have time to rethink his
behaviour on this board, whilst he is absent.

Because I'm here only since last week I won't take part in
that debate "ban or not ban" but I thought that by the way I
will tell you my opinion about some other things.

Firs one:
I think that Jedi Chris made a good decision to put that
thread because if he wrote a letter to maderator some could
think that he did it behind your back.

Second one:
I agree that talking aboute someone who is absent is not
all right but from the other side I'm little suprised that
this fact bothers some of you at all. After that few days of
my existence here it is really not surprising at(And it
should be)

Third one:
I don't understand why some of you think that words are just
words, and they can't hurt anyone.Normal person should use
them to say about its opinions and feelings(if has any).I'm
really surprised that some of you feel so free.

Fourth one:
You may say that the fact that I'm here is my own choice and
that there should be a demokracy in opinions. But is it still
demokracy or maybe anarchy?
