i think it could go either way, I agree that higher-fi drums would have made the sound a little more contemporary, but it goes against the whole "adventures in 8bit" theme and I actually think the 8bit drums complete the nintendo-esque feel! :)

Most of the drums that sound "8 bit" are really degraded down to 4 or 5 bits. 8 sounds cleaner than you think.

That's just from my experience making video game sounding music out of regular drums.
Actual Nintendo drums are based on an in-chip noise synthesizer.

I think it is wank. There is tons of shit out there, proper game music that is better, why would anyone want to make something that sounds shit? At the time they did it because that is the best they could do technically...this 8 bit music is easy to make and not very experimental or adventurous.

I thought if something, say a number, required only 5 bits of information (say, "01110"), then it was stored as an 8 bit number like "00001110". because that's how computer's handle the information or something.

That seems incorrect. So far, in this topic, you have typed the word "rubbish" only twice, while posting 98 other words, 2 numbers and 2 emoticon faces. That's hardly 99.4356677%.

Ah but it is the interpretation of words I am referring to, rather than the physical appearence of the letters forming the word "rubbish"...however your dilligence in attempting to prove me wrong is admirable.

Your equally dilligent in defending your position that you do, in fact, post rubbish 99.4356677%, but my time is spent trying to be humorous while yours is spent humorless. And besides, the fact that you are a black jewish fag makes your whole argument less credible.

I would say there is a lot of 8 bit stuff around and it is hard distinguish one track from the other especially as the sound is so insular. That said I do like the 8-bit sound but I think the novelty factor has begun to ware off a little now.

the 8bit novelty is just a fad that a few people are trying to keep alive because they are lame. ecnadniarb is right, these tunes suck, the melody is weak and there is way better video game music out there. Death to any 8bit shit made after 2000.

I'm a fan of 8bit and I make some myself. The original nature of the songs were loops of a minute or under, so I think the length is influenced by that. Length of track doesn't really bother me that much unless it drags on way too long.

Hmm, I guess I haven't had the good fortune enough to find any of the other 8bit music out there, but emoticon's stuff sends me on a trip down nostalgia lane. I think the melodies are decent enough (blockman fucking rocks), and I was actually thinking of playing some NES roms with no in game music and just use that stuff as the sound track.
