lateralus interesting-ness

i never gave the album all that much of a chance, i liked
it on the first few listens, and didn't think that it really
was all that special.
but i found a pretty interesting article describing
some of the mathematics and ideas behind some of it, and an
alternate tracklisting that supposedly makes the album flow
together more.

i haven't tried doing it, but it's kind of a strange but
interesting thing if these "secrets" were intended.. and i
really like the idea of a fibonacci sequence played on
drums
discuss..

I found it lyrically bland and hackneyed, but I suppose
there is more to it?

well, yeah i agree with you about the lyrics a bit..
i've heard that the album was written with the band members
under the influence of lsd, so maybe that has something to
do with it.

i think its the best tool album

I think its the worst, but I found this interesting:
I can honestly say that I never understood the album's
fourth track, Mantra until reordering the album's songs.
What I had originally heard as whale calls now had begun to
resemble the worst imaginable dry heaves - or a stylized
choking. Fitting, seeing as how the last line in Ticks &
Leeches is "I hope you choke."

The sounds in mantra is actually Maynard choking his siamese
cat. Pretty cool. I'm going to try this different track
order right now, listening to Parabola.

Heheh, my friend thinks he's the devil after she was invited
to the aftershow orgy. I saw the pass that they gave her.
it was an emptied capri-sun with a sticker on the back of
girls giving blowjobs to the band.

i just tried this guys order using traktor to just dj mix
the tracks...

seems like he wants to believe that his alternate
tracklisting is some devine gift... it isnt, the order makes
more sense on the album... you cant split
disposition/reflection/triad... its just too perfect...
parabola / schism / ticks and leeches did however mix rather
well

so far, the guitar at the end of parabola goes really good
into the guitar at the beginning of lateralus

yeah, I didn't get what the hell he was going on about, and
I don't think his "Algebra 2!" education gives him any
merit. It just sounded like mumbo-jumbo zodiacal number
theory stuff.
"13 tracks divided by 2 spirals equals 6.5, meaning that
track 6 and 7 must be together"
Uh, yeah!

"discovery"

WHAT?

Yeah, he squeezed his cat and he thought it sounded really
cool so he immediately recorded it and distorted it. Thats
what it is. Sorry to dispel whatever ideas you might have
had about pretty whales or something.

Thanks.

I don't really know anything about Maynard or Tool. What
I've heard by them I've liked, but the idea of someone
choking a cat because it sounds cool goes beyond my
comprehension.

I wish you hadn't told me that. :)

That's a bullshit rumor about the cat. Tool loves to start
these bullshit rumors just to fuck with people, because
people are idiots and will believe anything. You should
realize that most the hearsay about Tool is false.

After Lateralus came out and I gave it many concentrated
listens, I realized how much of a connection it had with the
Qabala. So I researched deeper and put together a detailed
explaination about the correlation. I think you'll find it
interesting. (My Tool site is down, so I had to upload it to
another site I run.)

yeah i met him and billy howerdel during apc's mer de noms
tour...i did a lot of chatting with billy while maynard was
sat there, when i said something to maynard he just gave me
a blank stare, billy looked uncomfortable, said something
quietly to maynard to which he replied "fuck you" a female
fan came up to maynard and his response was to clench his
fists and motion to punch her to which she quickly backed
off... i shook billy howerdels hand and then called maynard
i bitter little man...

(true story) no one ever believes me tho

She did go backstage, and this is what he asked her:
Maynard: "How old are you?"
Her: "Experience wise?"
Maynard: "How old would the state of Oregon say you were?"

Fucking up the order of the tracks may result in a different
mood but it won't make them any fucking better will it? I
place this behind Aenima and Undertow
