I downloaded this from elusives server, and I must say it
sounded like a boring wank. Although it was nice as just an
ambient-background-fall-asleep-type music.

offline uzim on 2004-05-08 09:15 [#01178459]
Points: 17716 Status: Lurker

yeah, it's quite good.

don't expect it to be anything like the usual Autechre
though.
experimental/static stuff.

(a double-CD with only 15 minutes of music on each CD may
look a little pretentious, but Mister Hafler Trio is
suffering from hepatitis and needs money, and it's a very
artistic presentation and all... well, make your own advice
about this... the music is good but more tracks, with varied
stuff, would have been welcome...)

(i'm not sure why, it reminds me of the temple of the forest
in zelda ocarina of time...)

even though i've already said this in several of these
threads, i feel compelled to state once more, just how cool
this is... (so that people don't think that only one or two
people on the board actually like it... more like 3 or 4
:P)
Tolstoyed, if you were going to like any autechre album,
this might be the one... it's just really well put together
very precise ambient noise... the first track mutates almost
constantly, and is insanely hypnotic in nature... similar
things can be said of the second track as well
(unfortunately i haven't heard it quite as many times as the
first so i can't really do it justice)... the release is
quite "Hafler" in aesthetic, in that it demands the listener
to listen soooo closely, and rewards accordingly... there's
quite a lengthy article in the Wire this month about Andrew
MacKenzie (who is the Hafler Trio), which talks about the
quasi-spirituality of hafler music, and the deep listening
state which most of his releases demand... i'm trying to
make this all sound as appealing as possible, because i'm
becoming somewhat of a Hafler addict lately, but i can't
help but feel like most people will just regard this as
pretentious (it probably is to an extent)... in truth the
music can't really be done justice by words, which is why
you should really check it out yourself...

First time I heard this, I thought:

wow, that's what earlier Pink Floyd sounded if they made
Industrial music.

Why is this release so expensive?
