here's a little program that runs like a screensaver, and
may help figure out how to cure cancer, among other things.

it's very non-intrusive on your computer. i run it on three
machines, and i can't tell it's running.

get the app here

and, i set up a team for xltronic. when/if you do
start using this, it will ask you if you want to join a
team, just put [34780] in.

there is also a plugin for the google toolbar, for those of you suckers
still using IE.

a little more about the project

"Alzheimer's disease. Cystic fibrosis. Mad Cow disease.
An inherited form of emphysema. Even many cancers. Recent
discoveries show that all these apparently unrelated
diseases result from protein folding gone wrong. As though
that weren't enough, many of the unexpected difficulties
biotechnology companies encounter when trying to produce
human proteins in bacteria also result from something amiss
when proteins fold.
"

"To solve the protein folding problem, we need to break
the microsecond barrier. Our group has developed a new way
to simulate protein folding which can break the microsecond
barrier by dividing the work between multiple processors in
a new way -- with a near linear speed up in the number of
processors. Thus, with 1000 processors, we can break the
microsecond barrier and help unlock the mystery of how
proteins fold.
"

ooh ooh!

if we could get joyrex to create a watmm team, we could have
a little friendly (or not) competition to see who could get
a higher ranking!

then, we'd be saving lives & kicking the asses of those
low-down shelbyville peeps.

yay!

depending on your machine's speed, and how long you let your
computer run, it could take a while to finish your first
work unit.

i've been doing it for a while, and i've only finished 23
units.

BTW...best way to run this is in the background in the
system tray rather than as a screensaver or Google toolbar,
it uses up any spare CPU time without affecting your machine
at all...
