wel an album can have 1 track, and a single can have 11
so....what is a, ep anyway?

EP is anything that is not classed by the artist as an album
but fails to qualify as a single for the purposes of
charting (in the UK anyway)

actually i have 4 but i'm not done with the 4th one, and i'm
not considering it as professional music, all i have to work
is a FL demo, but someday i'll just have it rearranged by
someone who is qualified in the field. anyways thanks for
the info BD

I consider an ep about half a full-lenght cd. But that's
just me.

yeah, an EP is something between a single (1-3 songs) and an
album (full-length), the sizes are quite subversive you
know, there are no rules. EP7 is an ep, it's over 50
minutes. Clarence Park is called an album, yet it's just
over 30 minutes long. No one to call it.

It hasn't got anything to do with the amount of songs. To me
an EP is about 20-30 minutes long. When it's shorter it's a
12", when it's longer it's a full length. But that's just my
personal opinion.

12" ?

It must be less than 40 minutes long, in Europe anyway.
Remember The Orb and "Blue Room". They challenged the limit
for an EP with releasing this 40 minute one track record
which was sold for the price of a single/EP but would be
classified as an album had it been a minute longer. It's all
about money you know...

EP7 is EP7.1 and 7.2 togehter. So it makes sense

Well, Warp charge the price of an album for the EP7 cd, dont
they? So I guess my defenition is based on the rules for
pricing records...

No it does not. EP7 is still an EP. And it's cheaper than an
album here.

So is Clarence Park, by the way,

In the UK starting 1st January 2004 there will be three
types of charting sales allowed for singles

1) Legal downloads

2) Standard CD Singles (Maximum of two tracks with the first
track being the one that will chart. Total running length
10 minutes.

3) Maxi CD - Can offer three original tracks plus remixes,
but total running length must not go over 20 minutes.

Anything falling outside the CD guidelines will be
considered an EP.

this is AUD recycle, not american $ :)
$20 is not very much at all... and $35 is kinda worth it for
an LP.

how about this:
rdj album features 10 songs and lasts for about 30 minutes
and costs more than 5 track ae Cichlisuite ep that lats 30
minutes too?
do you pay for music lenght or for the number of tracks?

ep= extended play. a term from back when singles were what
got released, and albums were considered special occasions.
it means an extended play single. a single usually at this
time consisted of an a side and a b side.

so you'd have to say anythign 3 song or over, basically. but
TIME is a factor as well.

if its way short, then its really not an ep.

timewise, you're looking at the 18-30ish mark.
