Tolstoyed is on the mark... let's all pat ourselves on the
back for having such sweet taste in music...

as for films: i'm a foreign junky... there are plenty of
good american films too but... well it does only represent a
fraction of the artistic vision in the field... here are
some of my favourite directors:

David Cronenberg
David Lynch
Paul Thomas Anderson
Atom Egoyan
Stanley Kubrick
Alfred Hitchcock
Buster Keaton
Francis Ford Coppola
Martin Scorses
David Gordon Green
Werner Herzog
Friedrich Murnau
Andrei Tarkovsky
Dziga Vertov
Ingmar Bergman
Akira Kurosawa
Shohei Imamura
Alain Resnais
Jean-Luc Godard
Federico Fellini
Carl Dreyer
Robert Bresson
Jean-Pierre Melville
Andrzej Wajda
Krczystof Kieslowksi

you should try a Dutch filmer called Alex van Warmerdam..
he's one of our most prolific filmers and pretty great.

just released a new film over here which I have yet to see.

you should try "Abel", his first film. weird and funny. and,
ofcourse, very interesting visuals. very stylized.

he had done a LOT of work in the theatre and as a painter
before starting as a filmer.

i'll keep my eye out for his films coming through our local
film-society... i doubt i'd be able to find much in town
otherwise... i think Holland is one of the few larger (and
by larger i mean culturally speaking... a country that has
been around since before WWII) european countries that i've
never seen a film from
