holograms?? amazing!

too bad they only made 150 copies, a lot of people will miss
out on some perfect electronic music...

you didnt get it yet?

thats weird, cuz i just ordered mine like a week ago, and i
got it already.
hmmm... you might wanna send a VERY angry and belittling
e-mail to warp telling them about this. they ought to
apologise and send it out right away.

make sure they send the ae change-purse and ruler set with
yours, too... it's the finest thing i've ever laid eyes on.

hahahahahaha

yes it is. apparently ae are gonna do a collab with the
deftones remixing madonna's entire backcatalog. every song,
every album, every fart she ever left... WILL BE REMIXED by
ae and deftones.

yup. emoting vocals and "hardcore" guitars mixed with xyrox
bleeps and sorta hip-hop "beats" (if you can call em that)

be -5 copies made, and will be housed in a kryptonite
casing. they will be handmade in the city of atlantis, by

I have mine here, just stuck the first CD in.

The first thing to note is that the packaging is gorgeous,
off-white card. The second thing to note is that while it's
2 CDs, there's little over 30 minutes of music here.

danbrusca: hows the music

offline danbrusca from Derbyshire (United Kingdom) on 2003-12-06 02:37 [#00979335]
Points: 4570 Status: Lurker

This first CD is a single track based, at first listen,
around a single drone. Closer listening reveals variances in
pitch, little sub-drones, glitchs and low-key noodlings.

...half way in and it seems someone pressed the 'ae' button,
with a very short burst like a stray flare from Gantz Graf,
but it's settled back down to the drone now.

It seems apparent that this is very much an avant-garde, art
release very unlike Autechre, but still strangely
compelling.

offline danbrusca from Derbyshire (United Kingdom) on 2003-12-06 02:42 [#00979336]
Points: 4570 Status: Lurker

12 minutes gone and some vibrato has appeared, 13 minutes
and there's some crunchiness dropped in for a few seconds,
14 minutes and it's faded out to silence.

The disc rounds out with 2.5 minutes of something that
sounds like it's been recorded at the end of a long
cardboard tube. Hard to describe.

offline danbrusca from Derbyshire (United Kingdom) on 2003-12-06 02:44 [#00979340]
Points: 4570 Status: Lurker

Second disc in and the total runtime of this release is 31m
40s, making it one of the most expensive pence-per-minute
CDs I've ever seen.

offline danbrusca from Derbyshire (United Kingdom) on 2003-12-06 02:48 [#00979345]
Points: 4570 Status: Lurker

Disc two starts off with a couple of minutes low rumbling
from which builds a wall of low-pitched static, that gets
louder and louder to 4.5 minutes, then falls back quickly to
some random glitch, then silence at 5.5 minutes.

offline JAroen from the pineal gland on 2003-12-06 02:50 [#00979346]

sounds like half decent noise scapes to me

offline danbrusca from Derbyshire (United Kingdom) on 2003-12-06 02:58 [#00979351]
Points: 4570 Status: Lurker

The next 'movement' sounds like wind in telegraph wires, but
with a higher pitch and a hissy carrier signal. It fades
away to background noise at 8 minutes from which appears
another low rumble, giving way to more low-level staic hiss
by 10 minutes, floating above a sea of shifting sound.

This fades away by 12 minutes and heavily chopped sound come
and goes. At 13.5 minutes some abrupt bursts of loud buzzing
are dropped in then fade to almost nothing, the wind noises
make a brief comeback and then it's over.

This release belongs to the dark ambient genre. It's like
nothing Autechre have done before so don't go buying it
expecting glitchy goodness.

My guess is that it will most appeal to people who are
familiar with :zoviet*france:, Rapoon and such like, or who
like the dark rumblings of Eraserhead.

At £15 it is very expensive for what you get, but I guess
it's the audio equivalent of by a print from Tate Modern as
opposed to a poster from HMV.

It will be interesting to see if Autechre bring anything
from this project to their next 'proper' release.

well, truth be told, it's nothing really revolutionary for
AE either ... particularly when considered in the light of
such previously released tracks as 'tony lemesmer' on the
Mesmer Variations compilation and particularly 'around
absolute zero' on the Absolute Zero comp., both as GESCOM

a question for all you AE nerds out there:

has a full version of the Autechre track "/]{-/](||)
excerpt" which appears on the All Tomorrow's Parties 3.0
double CD compilation ever been released anywhere?

awww! could sean and rob be ever the more sweeter?!? always
on the ready to help out an ailing fellow knob twiddler in
need!

... but seriously, the Hafler Trio fella's situation does
sound awfully rough! who knew that Icelanders would prove so
utterly heartless?!? it must be the ice-cold weather, i
reckon ... but one figures that by now surely he would've
done something for Bjork and made millions ... poor guy! =(

One thing I don't quite understand is that he says being out
of the UK for many years he would have to wait years for
treatment.

Nobody in the UK is denied access to treatment, regardless
of where they are from, so I don't see what his problem is
in that respect.

just a thought, but has anyone tried checking to see if
theres anything hidden away on pre-gap land? just try
hitting the rewind button of the first track and see if it
going into the negatives. i just feel like theyre gonna pull
this big trick where people complain that theres only half
an hour of music, then bam! theres like another hour's worth
hidden away in pregaps and shit.
