Only joking...I love this track you know. One of the best dance tracks I have ever heard. I know there is a lot of Moby hating on the board...but I actually quite like his stuff regardless. :D

i hate his new stuff. but one of his albums (in my opinion) surpases SAW 85-92. its Moby - Ambient, and if you dont believe, go to hell!

I saw Moby do Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on fire" on the Letterman show. Weird!
Go is his best effort ever IMO

I agree. I love Go, I've got the original issue remixes 12". Fantastic track.
I think moby gets it in the neck a bit because he is so outspoken (and has some rather dickish views). He'd be better off if he didn't do any interviews and just released his music.
Everything is wrong is great and I used to really like Play (before it was ruined by being used in everything on tv for the whole of 2000/2001).

Go was really good, the original version from Moby-Moby, not "I like to score"
i like all his stuff below the time belt of 2000. he got way to commercial after that.

his new stuff isn't bad imo, just an overdose of samplism which might start to bore after a while

I don't think he got commerical. He just got popular. I think he must have been as surprised as anyone as to the success of Play.

Every single track on Play has been use either in a film or an advert... it's in the guiness book of records for it. Pretty nuts really.
Play was a relative sleeper hit in 1999... it was after it was used in adverts etc. and got a (properly advertised and promoted) re-release in late 2000/early 2001 that it started charting and all the singles had success.

but santa makes a point. think what moby thought of that. he was never famous till after play, and that probobly really did come as a surprise to him. i stand corrected.
but still, another point made was how he always samples shit and it gets tedious, which it does. so i dont care for his new stuff. has anyone heard his Ambient cd? its so godly!

hmm.. i haven't really liked anything that i've heard of his before.. even the earlier stuff. my sister used to listen to it..
i'm not at all really into "dance" per se.. but, what are some good starter tracks for me, so i can give him a proper chance?
the ambient stuff?..

It was "Go" that first gave him fame, not Play... In his own words (I'm paraphrasing, but it's danmed close to what he said)- "If I'd not sampled the Twin Peaks theme, which was at the time a very popular show, for Go, I doubt I'd be here doing this interview now..."
He just had a quiet period of several years and only enjoyed moderate success with the releases between Go and Play.

New stuff I don't like though, pretty horrible sampling an old blues singer then... oops, she's dead, so no royalties to pay, convenient really.

Gwely Mernans does not lie- Ambient is a bit of class- one of the first albums that got me into electronic music in the early nineties. Its pretty minimalist and there are some well eerie tracks but I reckon it stands up to a lot of stuff being released now. In fact cheers for this thread cos I haven't listened to it in ages and you've inspired me to blast it out.

yes and another funny thing to note about moby -ambient. it was released without Mobys concent. the Instinct record label took random songs from him and compilated the album, which was released in 1993, the same year as SAW 85-92. and, (yes theres always an and) youll notice if you own the album, that this is the ONLY release from Mody where he states his name on the back as Richard M. Hall..
there are too many coincidences there to let it go..
