do any of you know what is this about?
is it like joga or what?
I have a friend who is getting "too" much into it and I am
worried for if it is like a sect

he thinks that with reiki you can solve any problem, physic,
emotional or spiritual

I dont like these kind of things... but I need advice to see
what I should do about this friend of mine... should I warn
him not to get even more involved? or is it innofensive?

I don't know anything about it but here's a site
that may help

It's an alternative healing method that says that there are
7 "power centres" in a human body and any imbalance between
those can be helped by transferring energy from the person
who performs reiki to the patient.

My mum's into these things and it's got nothing to do with a
sect or something. It's really harmless.

ha ha I was about to mention he should ask you...

I had a mate who was into it, seems pretty harmless in that
it's not a cult or anything. If you are religious, you'll
probably find it conflicts with your existing beliefs...

my mom does reiki and thereputic massage. she has her own
clinic. it's basically just very low impact massage
therapy. there is much basis in body energy i guess. but i
don't know much about that stuff.
helps a lot of people with stress problems; bad back and
neck; bad digestion even.

it's actually very similar to accupunture. instead of using
needles, they use the heat from their hands. supposedly
people who are really good at reiki can raise the temp of
their hands by meditating.

nacmat and Ceri:
Religious people and rationalists tend to find it utterly
ridiculous. Personally, since I dont see any harm in it at
all, I don't mind. It's actually a very warm (not literally)
way of healing and it sure as hell doesn't force anyone to
change their existing beliefs.

im not kidding: it shouldnt be used when someone's ill
without normal medicine too, right?

depends on how "ill" the person is. for cramps, muscle
aches, joint and muscle rehabilitation, my mom's customers
appear to be helped greatly.

but of course, reiki isn't a sufficient substitute for
antibiotics or morphine or whatever "normal medicine" you
might be talking about. but it can make a good compliment
to it.

eh, thats why she also practices thereputic massage.
combined with reiki, my mom is like a paladin.. except.. no
sword. actually she does have a sword.. but it's for tai
chi or something.

its not a sect or a faith as far as i know. to my knowledge
it has more to do with qi

My dad's not into that kind of newage stuff atall! He's the
complete opposite, but he's got the reiki thing naturally,
really strong, and I've inherited it...

It is wierd, I've never read anything about Reiki, just know
bits and pieces from friends - But all my life I've lived
with it pretty innate.
The best way to describe what it feels like is, when you
concentrate your energy to your hands they feel like two
opposed (or is it same?) magnets, like there's a force field
between them, and when you use it to sort other people out
it can get really warm, and also you feel like these little
bubbles of energy flying out from points where they may be
injured or where theres' some kind of imbalance or
something...

But yeah, I'm just not the type of person to go in for all
that stuff, and i've hardly ever used it cos it's just not
"me".. I can get rid of headaches VERY effectively (it's
about all i've tried) - On myself or the few times I've
tried it out on friends - Can get rid of a killer migraine
in about 30 seconds... It does REALLY suprise people when it
works like that!

haha, that must sound like so much bullshit! I know I
wouldn't take it too seriously if I read it coming from
someone else! but I've lived with it all my life so I don't
even think twice about it...

I think the idea is that you keep yourself balanced,
emotionally and physically, using tai chi exercises or yoga,
acupuncture, reiki, whatever... and then serious illness
doesn't have much of a chance to develop in the first place.

a friend of mine seems to have quite an understanding of
qi.. he can do some things that are amazing to me :)

Yeah, I was gonna say it's all the same stuff, qi, chi,
etc... But I didn't want to sound like some kid off the
Dragon Ball Z forum! haha

Heh, your mother seems to be into the same things my mum's
into. My mother is now doing a course on fysionomics,
"nutrition science" (I don't know a correct english word for
it) and several other (semi-)alternative healing methods and
sciences.

And yes, reiki does not substitute regular medicins and
methods, especially not with severe illnesses. It has never
pretended to do so either.

thats very interesting. putting that together with what my
friend has taught me, i can sense the mechanism

It is wierd when I think about it from a fresh perspective
like this... But yeah, when you try it out on someone you
can feel a layer of resistance, like a field around their
body, then you can kind of feel areas that are weak or areas
that feel kind of dense (that's usually headaches I find),
then sort of balance it out with your hands...

But yeah, I know NOTHING of the subject formally, but it is
pretty innate - I have probably spent about 10 minutes of my
entire life with a headache because it's always the first
thing I do when I feel one coming on.

There's good evidense that everyone's got the ability to
some degree - and it's been shown to slow down the
progession of cancers and things...

I know a lot more about the chi side of it cos I used to do
a lot of kung fu and tai chi stuff when i was younger... I
still use tai chi exercises to build it up if i'm gonna use
it.

I've seen a Taoist chi kung master throw people across rooms
with it to!

Wierd innit!?

I'm really openminded about this stuff, but actually seeing
it in person is another thing altogether.
